Thinking about selling my NSX

I am thinking about selling my NSX; this is my third NSX and favorite of the three. I don’t think I will be buying another NSX in the future; it is time to move on with something else. There is nothing wrong with the NSX; I still have a few more things I want to do to it. Most of my friends have sold or bought other cars, the love for the NSX is almost gone. The greatest resource for the NSX is moving in the wrong direction like some civic forums, it is just a sign of the times.

I think it is time to dedicate more time with the family. My wife hates my NSX, but she understands how much I love this car. To her it is a money pit; I have driven it maybe 5 times this year but still buying parts for it.

I am not sure how much I can get for my NSX, minus the Brembo Big Brakes I will give them to Bryan for all the help with working on my car.

Meh...a forum is a forum but I do understand what your talking about. I've recently bought a Jeep SRT8 and thought it would be fun to poke my head around the SRT forums - what a joke compared to NSXPrime.

That all being said if the car creates some issue between yourself and family I'd say thank yourself for having owned 3 and move on. Or maybe drive the car more and stop with the mods that are costing $$$. My GF is happy that I'm done with my NSX now only because she knows this car receives a ton of attention and she's not used to it - both in our private lives and in the public when we drive around...

Borderline obsession really... :)

P.S. You'll do fine if you sell it and thanks for the tips/inspiration for doing mine!

If you do not love it. Yes, sell it to someone who will.

Chris, I love your NSX, if I have more fiancial power and want another one, I would offer $55~$67k easily. R areo conversion+6 speed tranny+CTSC+I/H/E+extras+someone already did all the work. It would be a bargin at this price for me. I take it over 997GT3 anyday.

$55~$65k is sadly not a significant amount compare to what else available in this price range. There are a lot of mediocre cars that cost nearly this amount and nowhere as special.

Unless you moving onto Ferrari, Lambo, R8, other exotics. I guarantee you will miss it greatly. NSX is the best bang for the buck in exotic cars.

One potential issue you may want to consider ahead of time. If you ever decide to get another one, it would be tough and to get it back to the level of your current NSX. It would require outrageous amount of money and time.

I understand what you are saying, and agree with you regarding the forums - Not place it once was. That said, I would give a little pause before doing anything too rash for a few reasons:

1. IF you ever want to come back, you;re going to have a hard time finding another one like the one you have now.
2. Compared to other cars I would want, the NSX is CHEAP
3. Compared to other cars I would want, the NSX does not really depreciate much
4. I'd like to think NSX values are at that 10-15 year lull between new/cool and classic/cool values.Maybe things will improve. THen again, with no sporting inspiration from Honda maybe we are holding on to the coolest of the AMCs.
5. Last argument: assuming you are going to sell it and keep a daily driver, why not sell the daily driver and just drive the NSX. VERY reliable, cheap to use. Get your money's worth out of it. No need to go creating something that gorgeous for someone else to use.

I know where you are coming from. I am on the same boat, even after spending loads of money. It just seems moving on would be little closer as I keep the NSX. The forum is changing in ways but the OG's here keep it alive.LOL The buyers market is also getting younger and younger.

...it may be getting younger but the market is still filled with techies or smart people who buy the car for everything it has to offer, unlike Porsche drivers...

If it's a family issue I by all means agree with selling. Any other reason would make me argue for you to keep it but if a car of all things doesn't work for a family--definitely move on.

I agree, no issues there.

but she understands how much I love this car.

Do I see a slight doubt? I agree on most of your arguments esp the spirit in the forum. Luckily, a local forum was brought to live so I'm visiting that one much more frequently than this one.

To her it is a money pit

If you buy another exotic she'll hate that one even more. Marriage is live and let live.

I am feeling like selling mine at the moment as I don't use it much due to working summers and crappy winters. My wife does not want me to sell it as she knows I will only buy another one. I've driven the car less than 2k miles in one year!

If you can afford it, don't sell it, you will only start again with another NSX.

Cheers,

AR

Sell it Chris family comes first. I am sure you may come back buy another, I know I will I just sold mind. Most exotic car enthusiaists who are in a own a Ferrari and and Nsx why because its near perfect in stock trim. I would say buy another one in the future with simple mods exhaust , headers wheels lower it etc. The car looks darn good and for $30k an NA1 offers a heck of a deal I am sure you can get more than that for yours.

Good luck in your decision.

Chris you've got to be kidding! After all you've done:confused: Maybe mod less and drive it more. Truly it's a rare jewel among NSXs and if you aren't buying parts the wife will be happy.

I don't know if you track it at all but you might want to start so you can feel how good all those mods feel. Once you find how nice it's set up you'll really enjoy it.

I know EXACTLY what you are going through. I did the same thing to a 94 Supra TT. I went nuts on the mods and had so much money into the car that it was not only a scary beast to drive but that it got so much attention that i was scared to drive it anywhere i couldnt keep an eye on it.

In the end i sold it and was releaved i did. I had thought about buying another Supra and not going crazy with it but i decided to try something new instead and bought a nicely modded 300ZX TT. That car was garbage and was a lesson learned and so after trading it for a reliable sedan for a few years and a motorcycle i wanted to get another sports car and ended up buying a 91 NSX. It was cheap enough to be a toy that i could play around with and fun enough to keep me entertained from buying something more expensive or potentially VERY expensive after mods.

You probably have a ton of money into that car and probably have it just the way you wanted, the thing is.... thats always when wants change. My advice ...... quit while your ahead. I sold my Supra AFTER i hit a flat 2x4 on the highway that destroyed my perfect paint job, front mount intercooler and greddy spitter. So basically i sold it right after my heart was broken and i was out another $5k on the car just to try and recoup the already $15-$20k i had stuck into the car already.

Im going through the same thing with my house right now. After 4 years of remodeling and $50k spent. I want a bigger one and am stuck here now until either the market recovers or some fool just falls in love with what i did to the place. As you can guess, i'll probably be here awhile.

While I can't make any negative comments since selling mine has crossed my mind several times recently. With gas prices on the rise, hitting 5/6 bucks in the future for premium will dampin any joy riding in it. :frown:

Years ago I sold my '99 NSX primarily for family reasons (new baby and house). Cars such as the NSX are rather impractical selfish toys which is why I bought another. Even worse, every six months I have a need to drive something "different", but I will always have an NSX in my garage. Good-luck with your decision.

Wow Chris, this comes as quick a shock to me...especially after all you've done to your car. It scares me a little since I'm taking my car in a similar direction that you did....I hope I don't have the same feelings when I get there.

I will say this, after having to drive my car daily for the past couple of weeks I have become a little frustrated with it. The mods I've done have definitely made it more of a weekend car...it's not really fun having to plot out your path through a parking lot to avoid all the speed bumps or risk losing your front lip...or having your teeth jared lose by every little pebble in the road. I will admit that the thought of buying a more "relaxed" vehicle such as a 911 or vantage has crossed my mind.

I think these feelings tend to pass...don't make any rash decisions, your car is UNIQUE...you can't just buy another one if you change your mind.

The last few posts are interesting and two points come up that hit close to home:

a) When you mod a NSX the characteristics of the car change and its does become more of a weekend car

b) Once you've completed your project of mods you feel satisfied but also empty because there's nothing else to do

Both of these points combined will make someone want to sell. I've seen it over and over again and pray that it doesn't happen to me. I've just finished my car but I'm still enjoying it and hope that I always will. In the interm I've gone and purchased a rather sporty Jeep SRT8 to keep me satisfied daily with handling and power.

Like Dr.Vokyl mentioned above I've been daily driving my NSX and its become apparent that its not the best car for daily use being lowered and with the exhaust. Fun...definately...but I worry about parking it in public places.

It depends on what your getting next.
I think I know what you want and I don't blame you. There's a silver one listed on ebay. PM sent :)
