TL Type-S or G35 Sport

Hi guys,

I'm facing a good problem and that's trying to choose between a TL-S or a G-35 Sport. Both have the 6 speed, both are well powered, but the fit and finish of the TL and standard equipment on the TL shines, while the G35's rear wheel drive is certainly appealing.

I like the look of both cars, but the TL seems to have an aggressive stance and look to it, while the G35 is more organic.

My Acura dealer is willing to give me $3k more on trade for my CL-S as well.

Anyone out there with experience in these cars? I'd like some opinions from other NSX owners.

Thanks!

PS. I have looked at the 335i, but in Canada it just doesn't compete when cost is figured in.

That's a tough one. If the TL Type-S were RWD, it would be a no-brainer. I'd still pick the TL Type-S because it's well-equipped, refined, and Acura/Honda is generally more reliable than Infiniti/Nissan.

I'd go with the TL-S over the G35. I test drove an '07 TL-S and it was great. They made some nice upgrades to the interior, and the exterior styling is much more aesthetic than the G. Furthermore, the TL-S comes with Nav and back-up camera standard. I didn't test drive it in 6spd because for my next daily driver I want an automatic. I traded my '05 TL for an '06 G35C6MT and it was a mistake. For the money, you can't beat the Acura.

The Tl-s is an awesome car, everything about it is really nice. ours has the carbon fiber trim, black/blue pearl paint, with the gunmetal rims. its very sweet. TL-s hands down.

Definitely the TL type S..I drove it 2 weeks ago and it was pretty good and the car handle pretty well!!

This is far more one-sided than I thought it would be. I drove a G35 and it was a hoot to drive, but I think needs better rubber for OEM. The rear slid a little under mild cornering.

I have only driven a TL Dynamic package 05. Similar to the Type-S but not the same. Anyway, lots of wheel spin under acceleration, but still fun.

Keep your thoughts coming! Believe it or not this is helpful.

I just went through this same debate about 2 weeks ago with a friend of mine. (Heh, I never pass up a chance to test drive ANYTHING.)

We looked at the TL-S, G35, and IS350.

If you dig the styling, the IS is a nice car. But when we added up the numbers to match the same "options" that are standard on the TL, the difference was pretty big.

The G35 gets thumbs up for RWD and fun driving.

But when it came down to it, he bought the TL-S because of price, styling, and most importantly - fit and finish. The TL wins pretty hands down. The IS is second, but the price tag hurts it. The G is fun, but as many have mentioned, the interior styling and fit/finish are lacking. (Of course this is all opinion. )

The way we reasoned it, these 3 cars are so close in performance, it's splitting hairs. Plus, who's going to actually track/drag their TL/G35/IS? (Not I.)

if only they were in business

torque steer on the TL is very painful - I loved the car overall but not being able to control the steering under hard acceleration was a turn off

I hear that. Origianlly when the Type-S was being discussed there was some talk about using the SH-AWD system on it. That would be a sweet ride.

If the Type-S was anything but wrong-wheel-drive it would be a slam dunk.

You've hit on my major concern. I love the Acura's look, fit and finish, features, engine suspension, price, everything. My concern is that having 280hp going to the front wheel may be it's achille's heel, which bothers me over 4 years of ownership.

On the other hand BMW's have it all but you pay for it, and the Infiniti doesn't match the Acura at anything except acceleration and driving dynamics that comes with it's RWD.

If you're buying new, consider the depreciation on the G35. It's ridiculous. I picked up a fully loaded 03 sedan with nav and xenons for $12K earlier this year. I was comparing that to an 04 TL (first year of the new body style), but those were going for $10K+ more. The TL holds it's value far better, but I couldn't justify the $$$.

Other than that, so far the G35 has been a great car, no complaints here.
