Hi all:

I strongly recommend that those who don't have a lot of experience on the track sign up for events geared towards learning and education. These are events where in-car instructors are required for all but the most experienced drivers, not just "available", and where classroom sessions are provided in addition to in-car instruction. Such events include the drivers schools held by BMW CCA and Chin Motorsports, which have schools at tracks all over the country, as well as CGI Motorsports, which holds its events at GingerMan Raceway in southwest Michigan. Here are some upcoming Midwest events held in this manner:

April 7 - Mid-Ohio (OH) - BMW CCA, Northern Ohio Chapter
April 14-15 - Putnam Park (IN) - BMW CCA, Hoosier Chapter
April 28-29 - Road America (WI) - BMW CCA, Windy City Chapter
May 7 - GingerMan (MI) - CGI Motorsports
May 12-13 - Putnam Park (IN) - BMW CCA, Buckeye Chapter
May 21 - GingerMan (MI) - CGI Motorsports
May 26-27 - Mid-Ohio (OH) - BMW CCA, Northern Ohio Chapter
May 28-29 - Mid-Ohio (OH) - Chin Motorsports
June 4 - GingerMan (MI) - CGI Motorsports
June 18 - GingerMan (MI) - CGI Motorsports
June 23-24 - GingerMan (MI) - BMW CCA, Windy City Chapter
July 2 - GingerMan (MI) - CGI Motorsports
July 16 - GingerMan (MI) - CGI Motorsports
July 30 - GingerMan (MI) - CGI Motorsports
August 13 - GingerMan (MI) - CGI Motorsports
August 25-26 - Putnam Park (IN) - BMW CCA, Windy City Chapter
August 27 - GingerMan (MI) - CGI Motorsports
September 10 - GingerMan (MI) - CGI Motorsports
September 24 - GingerMan (MI) - CGI Motorsports
Oct 8-9 - Mid-Ohio (OH) - NSXCA, NSXPO 2007

I want to get into tracking my car this summer. What do I need to start? I have been a drag car guy for years but now Im interested in road courses after getting the internship on Team Sahlens rolex team. Do you need helmet full race suit? If so where is a good place to shop. Im just looking to have fun. Someone recommended honda challenge but I dont know much about it.

To get started you need to find a track day or organization with qualified instructors who will help you learn to drive on a track properly (braking, turn in, apex points, etc.) . You generally don't need a full race suit, but a good number of drivers do wear them. Many organizations runnning track days require an SA2000 helmet as the minimum allowable. If you need an SA2005 helmet and think a driving suit is in your best interest, try Simpson (www.TeamSimpson.com).

Good luck and we hope to see you at the track!
