TV Alert: Honda Hour Long Special (w/some NSX content)

Was just checking out my TiVo NSX Wishlist which usually doesn't pick up anything and sure enough, tomorrow morning at 11am EST, 'History International' (part of the DirecTV lineup) is having an hour long special "Voyages" on Soichiro's "perfect sports car".

Info from the TiVo:
Title: Voyages
Episode Title: Automobiles: Honda-NSX
Description: Soichiro Honda introduces his Honda-NSX in 1991.
Rating: TV-G
Categories: Documentaries
Original Air Date: 6/7/1999

Info from History channel website:
Automobiles: Honda-NSX
He changed the world's view of "Made in Japan", and beat the best of Detroit. But the respect and recognition of his peers eluded Honda's legendary founder -- until he introduced "the perfect sports car".

If you don't have this "History International" channel, it looks like they also have a VHS available in their online store for $24.95.

Description of the VHS:
Honda didn't need to build the NS-X. Big-ticket sports cars don't really make sense for mass-market automobile manufacturers. But that didn't stop the Japanese giant from creating a sports car that has been hailed as "perfect," and taken its place among the most treasured vehicles of all time.

From the ashes of World War II to today, this is the incredible story behind the Acura NS-X, the first Japanese "supercar." See how one man's manufacturing genius transformed the world's view of "Made in Japan" and threw Detroit into a tailspin - but how the cachet of producing a true exotic car remained out of reach for years. Trace the racing victories and engineering advances that finally made the NS-X feasible - and see how, in typical fashion, the stunning car combined the awesome performance of an exotic with the traits that have made the Japanese auto industry a world leader - dependability and value.
Other airings are Monday at 4pm EST and Tuesday at 4am EST.

I guess this has been around for several years, but I don't think I've seen it before. Anyone else have more info?

Thx for the heads-up! Voyages isn't one of those shows that usually attract my attention although I usually do scan history channel.

Keep in mind this is the 'History International' channel or "Hlnt" on the guide... channel 271 on DirecTV. Comes with the 'Total Choice Plus' package.

I think it's a sub-channel of the original 'History' channel on DirecTV's channel 269.

Anyways, wanted to clear that up.

I caught the last 20 minutes of it. The narrator referred to the show as being called, "The Rise of Honda". In keeping with the title, it seemed that the show was a special on the Honda corporation, not the NSX. Although the show's description in the guide stated it was about the NSX.

Perhaps the first 40 minutes was all NSX content. However, the show appeared as if the only segment with NSX content was the final 10 minute segment. Then again, I did miss the first 40 minutes of the show.

This is the History Channel's "Automobiles" episode on Honda. I bought it on VHS tape and transferred it to DVD. It talks about the war and the rise of Honda through motorcycles to cars and ending with about 10 minutes on the NSX. I ordered it thinking it was an hour on the NSX and felt ripped off when I found the NSX piece was 10 minutes. It does show a little of Senna but doesn't talk about his role in the project. I'll send it to anyone who wants to give me $1 for the blank DVD.

Sorry, Everyone. :(

From all the research I did, it was touted as an hour-long special on the NSX.

I changed the subject of my first post to:

TV Alert: Honda Hour Long Special (w/some NSX content)

But don't know how to change the subject of the thread.

Oh well... Next time the NSX wishlist picks up another show, I'll try to dig a little deeper.

I believe that this History Channel clip is online somewhere. The portion on the NSX that is. I downloaded it a long time ago. It's very choppy and garbled and unintelligible.

It's not exclusive to DirecTV. My local Comcast digital cable offers the History International channel too.

The video posted on this site is very hard to watch because of the sound problems. Can somebody do a cleaner capture? I didn't see this thread in time to catch it on TV and I don't think I get that channel anyway.

Has anyone recorded this on Replay TV. If so, can you send me the show?

B

I have it on VHS but, trust me, it's not worth it. Maybe four total minutes of the NSX and they seemed to only talk about the aluminum construction and ergonomics.
