For those on the west coast, you still have time to tune in!

My trusty TiVo NSX Wishlist has yet again picked up something interesting.

On the FINE channel (Fine Living, I think?) 232 for DirecTV folks at 6pm PST:

"Exotic Motoring" (2004) Dodge Viper and an Acura NSX; French automobiles from the 1930s.

Original Air Date was 11/28/2004, but the guide data must have been missing because this is the first time I've seen it.

Anyways, I haven't seen it yet, just saw that it was recording and wanted to let the west coast folks know. I'll do some research later and see if it's re-airing anytime soon and give a review of the show.

Darn!!! I'm at work/ did some one record or saw it?

Good catch!

Okay, here's more info.

The network is called Fine Living. Of course, to start with, you'll have to check with your cable/satellite provider to find out whether you receive it and, if so, what channel number it is in your area. You can view their Program Guide on their website here (you'll find Program Guide at the top of their home page) to see when various programs are broadcast in your area. Click on your time zone, of course.

Once you get to their listings, the title of the show is "Life in the Fast Lane With Steve Natt". "Exotic Motoring" is only the name of this particular episode (number 207).

This episode will be re-broadcast later tonight (Friday) at 11:00 pm Central Time.

At the beginning of the program for about 6 minutes, but a great 6 minutes. :)

The host introduces the segment by talking about "affordable exotics"... then sets the definition and guidelines... limited production, under $100k, etc... and the two cars that fit this mold, the Dodge Viper and Acura NSX.

They talk about how reliable the cars are and compare the warranties. Talk about how insurance is higher because these cars are prone to single-vehicle accidents where the driver loses control.

Host takes the Viper and NSX around for a spin and praises the raw power and torque of the Viper and talks about how the NSX takes a different approach with grace and refinement. Also mentions the Formula One background that birthed the car.

The last part is where they pull people off the street and ask, "which of these cars looks more like an exotic to you and why?"

Street guy 1: "The Acura... I think it's a perfect fit for someone who's in shape. The Viper is more of a fit for someone who wants to go out to sunset strip kind of car."

Street guy 2: "The NSX... the lines on it are a little sleeker... It's a lower car.. it's just looks fast!"

Street guy 3: "I would think the Viper. Just cause it stands out a lot more... and the NSX, people may think he wanted a Ferrari but couldn't afford it."

I've set my VCR to record it. If all goes well, I'll give a copy to Lud when I see him next weekend for him to post on this site.

EDIT: Looks like some others have gotten it digitized, so we're covered.

For those without Direct TV, is there a channel for this show??

Thanks much, Robr! I don't have the noscramble.h file installed (I think that's it) so my video files are still encrypted.

As far as other network providers, I just found this on their site. About the Network

i've got just about every patch on dealdatabase running on this thing :).
i offer tivo hacking as a service to my PC customers so I need to keep up with most of the stuff out there.

does someone have a place with some bandwidth to host this? my uplink is deathly slow (128k).

its a 111meg mpg file. it's a direct copy of the directv stream, so it's perfect quality. i could compress it if people would prefer something smaller, i just hate ruining video quality :).

i'm temporarily putting it here:
http://www.nema.com/nsx/

estimated time to completion: 1 hour. the filename is:
Life in the Fast Lane With Steve Natt-Exotic Motoring.ty-1.mpg

Sure! The channel is called Fine Living. It's not proprietary to DirecTV. It's a network, just like HBO or A&E or any other television network.

As with any network, you may need to check with your television provider, not only to see whether it's offered, but also to see whether it's included in whatever package you receive. In my case, I have digital cable from Comcast. I had their "Digital Gold" package, which is one of their more complete packages of channels, but I still had to call them tonight to ask for the "Digital Plus" package, which added another 17 channels (including such networks as the Biography channel, History International, etc) at an additional cost of $5/month.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to do this. The video was awesome. (Also, Waldorf should get some credit for bringing it up)

How can you hack a Tivo to run with your PC? It would be great if I could bi-pass having to save things to VHS then load them to my PC.

quick off topic about tivo:

check out www.dealdatabase.com forums for hacking your tivo. you should have basic PC knowledge (how to set up drives as master/slave primary/secondary) and be prepared to spend a lot of time reading in those forums. it's not rocket science, there is just a lot to wade through. a series 2 tivo or directivo (has a USB port on the back) is much easier and cheaper to hack than a series 1 (no USB, you have to purchase a special network adapter for about $100).

Thanks, newby. :) I'll just say that hacking the TiVo is *much* easier nowadays than it was when I got my first one back in 2000. :) You can even do things like set them up with a wi-fi card, display caller ID, you name it. The other big forum site is tivocommunity.com and has a 'underground' section as well for step-by-step help on networking your TiVo and such, but for hacking enthusiasts, dealdatabase that robr mentioned is the big one.

Oh and whenever my NSX wishlist picks something up, I make sure to post it here, like this previous thread some might have missed: Previous TV Alert

Robr: if you drop Lud a private message, I'm sure he'd love to put the 12mb wmv version in the gallery/multimedia section here.

I just saw this program a little bit ago....pretty neat stuff. I like how about everyone except for the grungy kid on the street said that the NSX was more exotic looking than the Viper (even after almost 15 years). I know I love my NSX.

For everyone that missed it, it's airing again on January 23rd at 6:30am accoring to the TiVo. Once again, this is on DirecTV channel 232 (FINE) for me.
