Upgrade Speakers w/o replacing stock amp possible? speaker

I think the NSX stereo sounds horrible. The high hurts my ears. There stereo in a 98 accord lx sounds better than the NSX.

I want to upgrade just the left and right door speakers but don't want any complications. Can I just replace the speakers and use the existing amp? how will this sound. If it doesn't work I am also considering getting a tiny amp and new speaker for each side.

Has anybody done this? is the poor sound as a result of the head unit or the amp/speaker itself?

thanks.

no, the amps are integrated into the speakers. besides if youre trying to improve sound, the amps should go right out the window along with the speakers.

Poor response is most likely one or more of the amps, not the speakers or the head. You can't replace the speakers themselves with something after-market, they are very low impedance & small physically so finding something compatible would be next to impossible (other than replacing with the same component); also, since the amp is most likely the issue, won't resolve your problem.
Bottom line - either replace the speakers with aftermarket & an amp to drive them, or just get the OEM units (amps) repaired.

Bad Sound quality is probably from the Amps, this has been an on going issue for the NSX and been disicussed here on the Prime for years. Bose likes to run a powerless head unit, low line level out then amplify the signal with an power amp directly to the speakers. Well lets just say ventalation is an issue with the Sub amp, look where they placed it under the carpet, what kind of cooling is avail down there. Failures with Capacitors and internals are well known for our Bose system in our cars.

Your best bet would to either find out which amp is causing you problems and have it repaired. Or just replace everything with aftermarket, I went this route, and I'm very pleased with my new sound!

The original BOSE crap... I mean system was probably good back in 91' but the quality of the sound even in a newer 02' is still crap, and probably will fail in a few years anyway. You'll be happier in the long run if you plan on keeping your NSX for years to replace the Bose with some better aftermarket stuff.
