It wouldnt surprise me if electronic manufactures knew about this technology and purposely did not use it. After all, this could potentially decrease extra revenue.

I don't think it does. I could be wrong, but I believe it's a method of waterproofing the water sensitive parts inside.

From what I could research it seems that it's a gas that basically coats everything that could actually come in contact with the gas, this includes all the ports and even parts of the inside of the phone. Since water is a larger molecule than gas, it can't even get to the areas that are already protected by the gas.
