Last Tuesday night, I crashed and totalled my beloved NSX.

Only last Sunday I attended a Christmas Cars&Coffee meet with the car and got many compliments. Discussed the pros and cons of several other magnificent cars there as well as many different kinds of modifications.

Last Tuesday day, coming back from a customer where I had just delivered a complete PC system, I spinned my car at roundabout at 00:30 am and hit a very solid pole on the passenger side just front of the passenger door.
And Yes, that is me, the guy who is always saying that I am a very alert driver.

The simple reason honestly?
Not paying attention at what I was doing! Thinking about the work that I still had to do for Wednesday when I would come home and not concentrate on driving. Ok, I was tired, I had been up and working since 0600 but that is still no excuse for not paying attention.
Was waiting at the traffic light and then took the corner of the roundabout much too wide, ending up on the buslane beside it and, without thinking, trying to correct it by turning the wheel much too fast. The rear came around and in a snap I crossed the street where this pole was waiting for me.

Luckily, apart from a bruised side and cuts from glass from both the windshield and the passenger windows, and a Enormously Bruised Ego, I am OK.
But the car is not, definately beyond reasonable repair with the side sill all crushed and pushed inward.

So here I am, to tell everyone that the Formula Red NSX with VIN T300015 will not be roaming the streets anymore.

Glad to hear you are alright, and the car did what it is suppose to do, keep you safe. Another one bites the dust :frown:

glad your ok, it could have been worst

the car is replaceable, your not, take that as blessing and a reminder to be careful and appreciate life.

cheers,

Ariel

Very glad to see that you were able to walk away from the accident. Sad to see your car damaged. Not trying to be funny, but I have had your NSX as my computer screen wall paper.

I've been trying to get mine to look like yours. Don't worry, something good is about to come your way.

Maarten, it's so sad to hear this.
I remember vividly following your car as you so generously guided us through the French countryside.
Janet is relieved, as am I, that you came out alright.

I am truly sorry.

Your friend in the U.S.,
Joe

Joe & Janet,

Thank you so much for your concern.
I remember the trip through France like it was yesterday, it was one of my most memorable events I have attended with the NSX.

To all of you, many thanks for your wishes.

It's very hard to think about me without having a NSX. In a way, it had become very much a part of my life. Being so suddenly without it is a very strange feeling.

Most of all, I am really angry at myself for making such a dumb and stupid mistake.
There are so many 'IF's' I can think about which would not have resulted in a crashed car. But all those put together cannot change what happenend nor give me back my NSX in one piece. It is and always will be my own fault and my own mistake and there is nobody I can blame but myself.

well be glad that your okay and just let the insurance company handle it and you'll be in another nsx in no time.

I feel for you...but think that your life is what's most important .... with health, you can work to get whatever you want....

now that this happened and it's a fact, make the right decisions to get you out of it in the better way...

.... and it's a matter of time to find another NSX... you'll need another one.... you'll WANT another one:wink:

all the best,
Nuno

Sorry to hear that mate but at least you are OK which is the most important thing.

Hope it all gets sorted soon.

Cheers,

AR

I'm sorry to hear about your accident and loss Marteen. I always like reading your input here on Prime and I hope you'll be able to replace your beloved car and be back with us soon.

I'm glad you're safe and relatively unhurt as a result of your accident. Be well.

Glad you are OK, sorry about your car. Now the fun starts with car shopping what could be more fun, especially in the current economic time we are all in.

 NO!

I feel very sorry to hear you've crashed and lost your beloved car, Maarten. :( On the other hand I'm glad that you've walked away without major physical injuries. Only thinking about loosing her makes me feel what you feel right now. As you say it only takes a fraction of a second. :( We were staying at the same hotel in Le Mans and our cars were waiting outside to be passionately talked about and to be driven.

For the US guys: We don't have that much NSX's for sale in Europe, so finding the right one at the right price needs a lot of patience.
Maarten, I hope you'll be back for another one. If I can help you with a Swiss car, let me know. But they're very pricey at the moment...

Not to be curious but what happens with the crashed car? Does the insurence company takes it? Will it be parted out?

I'm truly sorry,
Thomas

I wrecked a 99 viper and a 2003 viper within 13 months of each other..Both in the same way..Over confident and not paying attention..

It is a VERY sad feeling to see your baby crumbled up and immobile in the driveway..

I was so sad about the car and disgusted with my self that I sold a still running wrecked 2003 SRT10 for only 12K..Even though it was EASILY worth 15-20K at an auction..I personally just couldnt wait to get it outta my sight..

I feel for your loss and just get back up on the saddle..

Slecht!

I feel your pain. I lost my 1993 back in 2005. I am glad you are okay.

I am going to be in Holland in January. I would be happy to buy you een biertje or drie.

Holy crap Maarten.......

First i saw the subject, then the poster, then i thought, i see....a thread revived from the Spa crash, but then i noticed the date!

OMG man, i'm realy glad you are oke!

I'm realy sorry to read you crashed youre NSX beyond repair, and i'm sure you dont wanna go down that route again anyway.
Knowing how much time and effort you spend in building youre NSX up again, i can only just hope you can one day own a car like the NSX again and put so much passion into it as you did.

Mich

Oh man, I'm very sorry to hear about your NSX but at least you're all right. That you're man enough to own up to a mistake speaks volumes for you. I hope all turns out as well as it can and that you stay in the NSX community.

Painful as it is to bend a beloved car esp an aluminum one,the obvious positives outweigh the wreckage, you are ok and you are the only one involved or to blame,so all we can hope is the matter is resolved to your satisfaction. If I where you I would price buying the car from the insurance co and parting it out.

Maarten,

Was shocked to say the least when you called and told me what happened, but very glad you are physically OK.

We luckily can both realise it is just a material object and yes, there are much more important things in life, however, this really upset me knowing the passion that you have for your car.

Through the NSX we have met and have become friends.
Because of this and as fellow carnut it stayed on my mind the whole following day thinking how I would feel and knowing this is probably even worse for you.
Probably the biggest NSX enthousiast in the country losing his beautyful and rare NSX is a sad thing indeed.

You know who to call upon and/or visit if you need any help with the car or otherwise, I will gladly assist in any way I can.

Do get another NSX, goiing to car events without you won't be the same.
