I bought my car with this Flowmaster exhaust and no CATS. I loved the way it sounded. However, the check engine light staying on really bugged me. I worked around that my resetting my 7.5 amp fuse, but that only lasted about 3-4 days (and of course you lose radio and clock settings).

I could have possibly lived with the "check engine" but it was the fumes that were killing me. I was slightly embarrassed to drive the car through any type of drive through or keep it idling around a bunch of people ( i.e. outside of a hotel, waiting to pick up my wife), due to the fumes the exhaust put out.

After reading on here that without FI, taking the CATS off doesn't really improve performance, I decided to have the CATS put back on. :(

This video clip is with the CATS still off. I haven't produced a new clip with the CATS back on yet.

Yes sir, you are correct.. This was NSXG35's car. I think he did a fantastic job with it. I, of course, am adding just a "few" personal touches to it myself. (custom stereo install)

Thanks for the compliment.

Thanks for the compliments.

It saddens me to report that putting the CATS back on did indeed affect the sound of the exhuast. :( Obviously, I knew it would to a degree, but it made a huge difference.

First off, the car is near quiet at idle. Just a low tone, not particularly throaty or deep. If I drive it in a normal, civil manner...the car is still fairly quiet. This is a big difference than before when the car would basically start a roar with every touch of the pedal.

The nice thing is at WOT, the car sounds pretty much the way it used to. Deep and growly, with a bit of a gurgle with the letting off the gas...

When I get a chance, I will film a new clip in the same location in the same manner, in order to use as a comparison. Without the CATS, I can honestly say I LOVED the sound. The jury is still out on whether I like the Flowmaster with the CATS. ( I do, however, like NOT getting choked out by the fumes of my own car every time I went through a drive thru)

I just bought a '91 with Tubi and the cats removed....it's too loud for me as it is, and the fumes are terrible! I have the cats and will be putting them back in shortly....I was wondering if putting the cats back in cured the fume problem???

After watching your video (w/out the cats), it sounds almost the same as my car. Here's a couple of short clips here... not the best but you get an idea: http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34477

But on my car, I still have the cats on and it's just the exhaust that is loud. With the exhaust on, it's loud at idle (rumbling), it's loud at low rpms, and it's very loud when driving around down with my windows down. But I'll admit it sounds sweet on the freeway above 5000 rpms, passing people in 3rd gear :D .

But since then, I've taken them off because it's way too loud for my tastes and I'm waiting on a HKS exhaust from another Prime member (almost 2 weeks now after payment received and with little/no response  ), but only because I like the very low mellow sound of it and I don't care for the loud exhaust sound. The muffler on my exhaust, which came with the car when I bought it, was a crappy Ultraflow muffler but loud as hell when driving.

I would like to hear the difference with the cats on. I saw the other clip of Newman, but I would like to see one in action rather than just reving the engine at a stop.

Hey Dan just put the cats back on and stop eating so many cheeseburgers, then you won't spend as much time in drive thrus. Haha just kidding but if you do come up with a solution let me know since I want to put the flowmaster on my next NSX. I will also ask Scott (TampaBayNSX-R) what he did since he had the flowmaster along with several other exhaust on his car, all without cats.

im not sure that the fumes are normal. i've run my 91 without cats for over 80,000 miles and have no fume issues (my wife with the mega-nose would be the first to complain). also the car still passes MA emissions without cats (actually it failed for the first time this year, but then i had it tuned up and it passed).

if it's passing MA emissions, you shouldn't be getting choked by fumes.

Well, I may have over reacted a little bit..

Well, it's been a while since I put the CATS back on and I have reassessed the situation. The car isn't nearly as quiet as I originally accused it of being once I had put the CATS on.

Certainly, there was a distinct contrast, especially at low and idle RPMs...

Here is a new clip with the CATS back on. (before anyone points it out, I realize that I hit the rev limiter on my 1st/2nd shift....I guess I was just a little excited..:D )

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think it sounds too different. It almost sounds better to me with them on and you don't suffocate to death.

jlindy....perhaps you're confirming what I was starting to think...

and I complete agree with the suffocating to death comment.
