Imagine if you could change the color of your car each year at reasonable cost? You'd never get sick of it. I'd change my color yearly...

So does anyone know any shop that offers this? Would be the same concept as the full clear bra, so durability and protection from the underlying paint is a must (especially useful on track cars).

I think these is a German place in Dubai that does it (doesn't help you I know!) Their website is foilacar.com - maybe they can help you out with who can help you in your neck of the woods.

It is actually just as expensive to get a brand new paint job, maybe not even as much actually!

Display Graphics, in Houston, does this. They did my son's MR2 and son-in-law's GTI. I don't know what it costs - in their case, they got it free by including advertising in the wrap. The GTI went from white to black with the wrap.

Google Car Wraps

About 3-4K, for a full wrap, depending on sq. ft. covered.
Same price if you have graphics or leave it blank. It's the cost of the vinyl and install.
I'm getting an Odyssey wrapped for my business, well half of it wrapped for $1875

i have had a few cars and trailers wrapped...SHOP AROUND...typically, there are 2-3 installers who work a given part of the city, and they install the wrap for 8-10 different "sign shops"

all of these shops would quote 2-3K for car or truck....We ended up finding a much larger type of outfit, someone who does semil riggs, fire trucks, large signs for buildings...not just a "signsnow" or the like.

They ended up doing a Denalli XL and a 15 foot enclosed trailer for about $3k. So it was about $2k less than everywhere else....they have like 6 installers on staff full time, so they are not subing out that labor, and the material, which is kinda pricy, they buy in MASS amounts....

i just did a 15 foot trailer last week, $1240 bucks, including the art work.

the great thing is, the trailer is like 6 years old and has always been wrapped. when i take the wrap off, EVERYONE thinks the thing is new, the paint still looks great....

The costs of the wrap will a great business write-off as advertising expense versus a new paint job. $2K seems to be the going rate.

Plese direct me towards companies that are charging $2000 for a wrap. Not ones that offer inferior materials, but the 3M stuff that is guaranteed not to fade, crack or peel for 60 months

Don't know how good the quality of their product- but they are offering car wraps special for $1995 here in Sacramento.

The print shop right across the alley from me does wraps. Mostly print stuff for radio stations and the like, but I have asked them about the color change. Cost for an "average" wrap using a pre-colored vinyl in high quality UV-proof colors: About $2-2.5K

I wish i had thought about something like this before i painted my car. I think flat black would have looked pretty cool on an NSX and if anyone ever gave you crap about it you can simply tell them that you were simply protecting the paint. My worry is how it would look on a car like the NSX. I don't think i have ever seem one with a full color paint change wrap, i would like to though.

Post up some pics if anyone has done this to their NSX.

That NSX in the F & F movie must have been a wrap. I can't imagine that thing being painted like that.

How's this for a color change ... took mine from Magnum Grey to classic NSX-R White/Black. I didnt want to paint the car or loose its originality but fancied a change as Larry says in first post

Hope you like the results .... the wrapped photo also shows the Procar hood

regards, Paul

COOL... That's a very nice wrap job. At first, I thought it was a photoshop. Anyways, I'd like to try white as the first color change as well. Great minds think alike:biggrin:

Very NICE!!! If you don't mind, how much does something like that cost and how durable is it? Can you take your car to a car wash or must it be washed by hand?

I would always hand wash the NSX anyway but the company uses jet washes and car washes on its commercial vehicles without any issues.

Cost is on par with a good front end respray to remove the rock chips etc. This way I get protection for rthe original paint plus a new look. Its guaranteed for 3 years.

It doesn't have the real depth of shine of paint, so as long as you are comfortable with this you can enjoy any number of finishes/colors without all the questions that a repaint would bring from future owners.

this is a great way to keep up to value of the car and protect the original paint job.

But it isn't a super cheap option over here it's about $2.220 to have it done.
it does take 1 day which is quite fast for a complete make over.

Although you can't really get the depth and effect of a painted car like say a Imola orange NSX would have.

For a freshly painted/new car a clear cover would be very practical since you ill keep your investment protected.

For those who don't care about color depth, matte or satin black is a good choice.

I have gloss black vinyl wrap on my window trim for my beater for over a year, I driver it everyday under California sun, no problems, look no different than paint, I even put a few coat of wax over it.

A few members on GT-R forum had it done in Northern Cal by Skinzwrap, contact Tamara (214)264-8606. She'd also fly people out to wherever you are to do a wrap too!:

When you first have them done they look ok. Eddie recently got his honda race car back from the graphics shop in preparation for run-offs and it looks really good. I think I like the darker colors like black the best.

I had a wrap on my 350Z race car I ran one year. It was ok I guess, but started to look really tattered toward the end from all the patches around the rock chips. You could say that it survived the fifty foot rule. The negatives are that the matte look is not as clean looking, vinyl does add weight, and I can't really say that an appt with the graphics dude is all that much of an improvement over the body dude in the event of an incident. You go from color matching paint to color matching vinyl and if anything I would say it limits your options. I guess it depends a lot on your relationship there.

Either way, take a look at some cars with them, and like any graphics work plan to put the design time in before you do it- because you only get out what you put in. Believe me when I say that what looks good on the laptop screen might not on the car. You say it now, but I very much doubt you'll be changing it yearly on a whim. A good wrap job isn't exactly what I would characterize as inexpensive.
