VP maybe-to-be daughter is preggie

I find it interesting that CNN runs this as "Politics". I thought kids were off limits.

In this race? I'd say (not that I agree) NOTHING is off limits. The gloves are coming off.

i dont see how the dems can bash on little palin for this, or the palin family at all, because then they would be alienating every young woman whose had a child, and every family of every young woman whose had a child. whites, blacks, hispanics all have a bit of a problem with this, if you want to call it a problem.

What does this have to do with Palin's credentials as VP? Why do I even get bothered with this. She's almost an adult and proposes to marry the dad, it's none of my business. Some bad luck and I could have been in the same situation. Now if Palin is caught doing crack cocaine or Obama gets a 17 year old pregnant, come talk to me.

Obama obviously gets this, "Let me be as clear as possible," Obama said. "I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president."

I'd hope Palin would say the same thing of Obama's kid was caught stealing a barbie from a toy store, or whatever the equivalent is for 8 year old girls (guessing).

The fact that CNN is doing this is disgusting. I know MSNBC had it in for Obama, but now it's obvious that CNN did too.

The families ARE off-limits. Very few people have mentioned that that Obama was born to an 18 year old single mother and insinuating that she was a slut or that she was "punished with a baby" and it would have been better to "terminate" the pregnancy.

There is a movement to contact and boycott CNN for their sexist, anti-family "reporting." If you want to take action, see my blog....

I don't think the families are off limits.... not only is her minor daughter pregnant but also from the pics of her floating around a heavy "underage" drinker. If she can't run her family than how can she run the Nation?

Hey, I understand these things happen. However, if I hear "conservative family values, morals, or any other right wing babble" come out of her during the campaign then I call hypocrite.

McCain's an idiot, because with this VP pick they just lost the ability to hold the high moral ground - which they needed to get the right wing, conservative vote.

Some good points.

I commend Obama for saying that family and children are off limits.

Of course that could be a hidden agenda too.

The Palin pick is to get Hillary and the Christian coalition support.... smart move IMHO.

I won't argue whether he's an idiot or not because there's no winner in that argument but...

I think you're completely off base in your statement about his ability to get the right wing, conservative vote.

Ask yourself whether you really thing any "right wing, conservative" is really going to vote for Obama no matter what. Not a chance. McCain could have picked a chimp for his running mate and the right wing majority still wouldn't vote for Obama, in my opinion.

And back to the point... I think bringing underage children into politics is simply disgusting. No matter who does it.

No, they won't vote for Obama but they might not vote. Some people will abstain from voting because they can't vote for a McCain/Palin ticket.

And those that do are no better than child molestors......

Give me a break! What if... hypothetically, a candidate's minor child was involved with a hate crime? What if... hypothically, the minor committed a felony and the parents covered it up?

It's not about the minor, it's about the parents saying one thing and doing another. It's about being a hypocrite. No one cares that Bristol is pregnant. They care because her mother is against sex ed in school, pro family values, and believes abstinence is the answer to sexual education. Guess, it doesn't really work, huh?

Parents can do everything (legally) to steer/guide their kids in the "right" direction.

There are no guarantees.

You can't pick and choose ur children and parents.

I don't think it's alarming that a parent would cover up their kid's mistakes. Afterall, it's their kid, right or wrong.

At the end of the day ur arguing about sex and pregnancy...... it's a small detail and issue. Not a true epidemic. There are other issues that are more pressing.

1. War - the $$$ that we spent on it
2. US debt
3. China is growng leaps and bounds. USA is sinking financially.

Or as the chinese would say:

Grasshopper, you can only lead a horse to the river to drink, but can not make it drink.....

Today, my firstgrader told my wife that a boy said that he liked her. She looked at him with a funny face and ran away.

I'll continue to point her in that direction.

That's not the point... the point is hypocrisy. I'm not going to judge her, or her daughter. However, like I said, if she starts with any conservative family values crap in any of her speeches.... she can talk about taxes, foreign policy, healthcare but as far as I am concerned she lost the moral group to stand on a bully pulpit and preach.

So are you telling us that everthing we preach in life that is ultimately out of our direct control is worthless:confused::rolleyes: Youza you have set a tough standard for yourself:wink:

Ditto. I also agree with BATMAN about the war, debt, and China catching up, which is why I'm voting Obama.

If I was nominated for the position of Drug Csar and you found out that my son who was living in my house was a crackhead, would you think twice about my being appointed?

Her daugher was living at home. It's not about the pregnancy. Looking at the pictures floating around the web now of Bristol makes it look like she was a "girl gone wild". I think as her Mother, she had a little control over the behavior and values that her children grew up with. My parents didn't control us but they instilled certain values in us (most notably - don't get caught and don't let anyone take any photos or videos of you doing it).

WOW, that's alot of Crown Royal pouches in her room (think my Mom might have noticed). Maybe, she found the empty bottles on the side of the road and decided to help Keep Alaska Clean and picked them up and brought them home to hang on the wall because empty liquor bottles are pretty.

Even CL65 Captain doesn't drink the Captain Morgan.

Of course not, but in this small and very familiar/personal data pool of one, Palin's own first-hand experience with abstinence only failed.

With all respect, the view that abstinence doesn't get one pregnant is fairly accurate. I fail to understand the logic at not, at the very least, offering that as an alternative view.

Whether a specific teenager will heed that advice is anyone's guess.

Does anyone here NOT know a person or a family that hasn't experienced this? I don't have children but I always thought that when you send them off to school, you've lost a lot of control over their behavior. Sure am glad I was the perfect child.

Still think it's rotten to out a 17 year old kid. It's a private family matter and doesn't need to become a political issue. Just my opinion.

Disclaimer: I don't vote.
