I've been considering header/exhaust upgrades on my stock 92 but really prefer the look of the stock exhaust tips.....so much so that I'm thinking of purchasing aftermarket headers but use the OEM exhaust. From a performance standpoint, is this really defeating the purpose of purchasing the headers? Does anyone run this combination on their car? Is there an aftermarket exhaust tip that looks like OEM for larger diameter exhaust pipes?

Thanks!

I purchase my car with headers with oem muffler. It still performed, trust me. Althought I never driven a stock nsx before, until recent my brother bought an stock nsx.
Two weeks after owning the car I purchase a used dc sport muffler and chop of its tip and put the stock tips on. The car is a sleeper.

I did the mods in stages. I drove the car stock for a year before I cought the bug. I started with the intake, then the 17/18 wheels/tires, spring, sway bar... I had the DC headers on for over 6 months before I installed the GruppeM ver.2. When the headers were installed, I could feel the performance increase by the seat of the pants. It was noticable. The engine run smoother and happier and no louder than before the headers.

I was told that the stock exhaust is pretty unrestrictive already. When I installed the GMV2, the only thing I noticed was the awesome sound of the exhaust. No perceivable hp gain.

If you are happy with the sound and the tips of the OEM exhaust, I'd definitely safe the $$$ for other mods.

I'm running CT headers with test pipes and stock exhaust; I'm still deciding on an exhaust. I did notice some gains but those were quickly quelled with addition of 19in wheels.

On top of the additional weight of the wheels and a lot more on the tires, the larger outside diameter doesn't help either. That goes with any wheel/tire upgrades that most of them give your larger diameters than OEM.

Actually, given roughly the same tire width, a larger diameter tire(say a 17 inch)
is sometimes lighter than a 16inch tire because of the lower profile. There is less rubber material that contributes to the weight. For example a Toyo T1-S tire in 215/55ZR16 weighs 22.3 pounds. The T1-S in 215/40ZR17 weighs 19.6 pounds

I run CT stainless headers with a '97 exhaust, added power is noticable. The sound
has changed quite nicely. Still quite at
cruise or idle(a little more burble), but
more intake noise from added breathing, even
though intake and filter are stock, upon acceleration. I highly recommend the headers
alone choice.

Why is it that even though I type all the way
to the end of the little box, my posting is
all chopped up when viewing after it is sent?
Each line has only 45 available spaces on my
screen. I see other posts that seem to have
double that avaible?

Well it sounds like of the header/exhaust mods, the headers make the biggest difference in performance, and OEM exhaust won't restrict air flow too much. I like the idea of making mods in stages and may take that approach. I appreciate all your suggestions! What a great forum......

Your lines end after 45 spaces because, when you reach the end of a line, you're pressing the ENTER key on your keyboard. Instead of doing that, just keep typing your words and spaces when you reach the end of the line. Type the words and put a space between them but don't use the ENTER key at all (except between paragraphs). You will find that as you type, your cursor will automatically jump down to the next line. This feature is called "word wrap". If you type it this way, when the text of your post is then shown as part of the topic, it will automatically be formatted to use the entire width of the screen, just like all the other posts do.
