What about puttin in a big screen that fills most of the center console?

Hey I was just thinking, what about replacing the entire console with one big screen. I guess leave the two top vents then just put one big screen kind of like the tesla. It would be difficult to get the climate setup but other than that it might work. I was thinking of doing it in aluminum or just a thin stainless 304 sheet because it is easier to work with. The seam at the bottom where it connects to the plastic might look like crap I don't know how that would work yet. I installed my double din myself I don't remember any reason why it would be too difficult to throw a mini pc in there.

Anyone know how to interact with the ecu to allow me to write some software to control climate through the serial port?

I've thought about the CCU part a bit. It really doesn't seem that complicated in theory. I have not looked at the schematics to see how tied in with the rest of the car it is but I suspect that it is not. I have built a microcontroller-based PID temperature controller and a few other bits of electronics so I don't see this as beyond the pale. But I can't say it's something I have been gearing up for.

Well if anyone is interested I could use some help. I can do the coding. It would be cool if there is a that returns the dash to the look of a completely stock dash. Is that not cool or is it just my weirdness.

Good point. I'm not all that into touch screens. I'd just like to change some of the HVAC logic.

Some of the new screens are pretty good. I was thinking of getting a cheap surface pro. I just need to check the viewing angle is ok like that but I think it will be.

Hopefully someone will chime in with a way to control through the ecu. I heard from enoughlogic that some controls are analog so may be impossible.

It would require servo motors controlled via something like Raspberry Pi via custom apps. And you would still retain the old block, so that needs relocation. I gave up on the idea long ago.

A while ago I was thinking of putting an Ipad mini in-place of the deck but it would have been hard to make fit. At the time thought about the same thing, that it would be nice if the climate control could be removed and somehow controlled by the ipad or any other tablet. But don't have the expertise to accomplish something like that. If someone can figure something out that would be great.

Yeah, if someone can do something here I would build the app side.

My concern would be terrible screen glare.

I wonder how does the porsche 918 get away with this?
It's sloped pretty much like the nsx.

My guess is a brighter screen and/or some combination of films/coverings on the center console and/or the windshield. Or! the Porsche 918 also has a barely usable screen but no one complains about it.

I don't think the glare would be as bad as you think. Driving around today with the top of and sunny I couldn't see my double din screen at all. Just to see I took my iphone and put on top of the double din and even though there was some glare I could still see the screen. With a tablet that has a bigger screen than the iphone it should be even easier to see.

My nokia windows phone is same thing, it shows in any light. Probably not cheap for a large screen.
