1. Bell Twin turbo

2. NSX modified custom turbo kit

3. Cybernation custom turbo kit

anymore?

if you own any of these, please comment about them, exspenses, performance, etc.

i'm having NSX Modified install my turbo kit right now. Its going to kick ass when its done. NECK SNAPPING EXPERIENCE!!!!

I had a ride in one of his turbos before.

Love the turbo spool and BOV sound.

The Bell kit is no longer available as such. The guys who bought the rights to it were redesigning it around standard turbos rather than the original Aerodynes but have not announced it as production ready.

The NSX Modified system isn't offered as a kit, and really isn't even a "production" system as yet. It basically amounts to a short run of custom installs. Not that there's anything fundamentally wrong with that, but it shouldn’t be confused with one having a significant history and track record. (pun intended)

Cybernation seems to be working towards a production system but AFAIK are not yet finished so it too lacks any real history in the hands of customers.

I believe the guys at FactorX are also working on a system which I expected to be released by now.

The truth is that any really good custom turbo shop can fabricate everything you need. It is very important that the correct turbo be selected by matching it's characteristics (primarily compressor maps) to the engine on which they will be used. The toughest part by far has always been precise fuel management, but even that is much simpler now that you can replace the entire ECU with one that can be programmed to suit your car. And with the release of the AEM that is easier and cheaper than ever. I don’t believe any of the discussed systems have been tuned with such an ECU or are yet offered with one. IMNSHO they should all start doing so.

sjs is correct - nobody is currently producing an nsx turbo kit now that the Bell one is unavailable, but there are several people who have installed various turbo setups with varying approaches and results.

Sorry to jump in on this so late but I thought it would be beneficial to some. Cartech's redesign of the twin turbo system is almost complete. Originally, our goal was to have it done by NSXPO but we ran into many challenges in trying to convert the system from the Aerodynes to T28s. This was due to the fact that we already have a group of customers out there that may need our support in converting their system at some point. So, we have blended the abundant customer feedback for improvements to the system and stayed mostly true to the original layout.

Initially, we attempted to use the AEM ECU but as we tried to get a production unit from them we were always told that it was not production ready yet (OBDII). You all are probably have more info on the AEM unit than we do. We would really like to incorporate it into our system as it would really expand the potential of the system.

Next we attempted to work with FactorX. As we were ready to start this process, they moved buildings and did not seem to have time to work on the project. So, for now we are using the Rebic in conjunction with the factory ECU.

We have lots of pictures and will update the website as soon as Tim has his car back and is happy with the system. This is a good time to thank Tim Shinn. Without his abundant patience, this project would not have been possible.

Gerry Johnson is getting booked up with the single turbo install's (one a former MBSC) and putting together high psi engines. The new design eliminated the sump pump and associated plumbing. I think for track use a engine oil cooler should be added but Gerry is going the right way with his turbo design. If I have any problems with my bell hybred I will switch over to his setup. Most of all he seems to be the ONLY one to have a kit that has the tuning under control. Speaking of tuning, I have not heard ANYTHING from the AEM guys as of late. What is the deal!! I am dumping the e-manage and looking for a replacement. Any info would be appreciated. Dan

Have any of them been run hard at the track yet?

I have NSX Modified turbo in my car. Its great. I defiantly love it and I think its affordable and you get the most out of what you pay with this turbo. Its not ridiculously priced like some I have seen out there were you could put a down payment on another NSX with what you pay for some turbo's.

Gerry Johnson's setup looks the cleanest to date. For those who don't have or want to use a scooped rear hatch, I'm sure a air/liquid IC would work fine. In addition,
Factor X is working on a 1K TT setup also. Mike is a former JUN tech and I am confident he can tune it in just right.
I personally would lean away from kits done by former Acura techs. They may be able to tear apart and reassemble your NSX like none other, but the world of forced induction is a VERY different bird. They just do not have the real world day to day experience.

Question: 1k = 1000 HP or 1k = $1000 OR BOTH!

If FactorX is going to make a kit with that much HP I want to see it. I also want to see the kit on a track for over 2 hours and see what happens. If they do make a kit and I will fly out there as well to see it and it does what they say it will do I will be the 1st in line. I know it can be done but I think there are not that many people going to mess with the NSX. I hope the NSX get's like the RX-7 and other cars are at where you can do this this and this and run a 10 flat and know it works.

Well, I guess I can talk publicly since Preston already mentioned my car. I have seen the pictures of the kit installed on my car and the quality looks excellent. We had hoped to use the AEM setup but my car is a '98. For those of you with OBD I, I would consider giving Preston or Mike a call regarding an AEM / Cartech setup. For the Midwest people, rides will be available when the weather gets better. Also, Preston, make sure that you let everyone know the final dyno numbers and post the grafts if possible

Tim

Nice, if I drive up to Vegas sometime, would it be cool to stop by the shop and check it out??

Hey Factor X... The Cybernation Turbo Kit has been hashed over for awhile now, and they have explained in detail that components of their kit, as well as discussed many concerns that potential buyers have had. They also target their turbo kit price to be under $5000.00. My questions to you are... 1) How much is your turbo kit going to be? 2) Do you have a more definite release date? 3) What differentiates your kit from the Cybernation kit? 4) Will you kit be superior in the way it is setup to the Cybernation kit, based on the info that is available about their kit? 5) I live in LV, so can I come by to check out a prototype kit that you may have on your shop NSX? 6) Will your kit come with a custom exhaust made specifically for turbo apps like how the Cybernation kit will? 7) Could you list the components that are going to make up your kit? 8) What hp and torque figures are you looking at your kit to make at 7 psi? 9) Will you be selling the kits at one price to both consumers and businesses, or will you have wholesale and retail pricing? Shawn

Just got off the phone with FactorX, pretty nice guy. Need to take with Ken about the detalis. Will keep everyone posted.
