What problems to look out for when going wide body?? What should I know before taking this big step?

buying an authentic kit from a reputable company so it fits, some guy up here in the northwest bought a sorcery knock off kit and he must have spent around 100 hours fitting it, he made a huge thread documenting the crappy fit of everything, but after his work turned out great
 
Show car or go car?

Most wide body cars are slower and weight more. Some run wider taller tires that are slower too.

The stock aluminum fenders are light.

If you are just for looks none of this matters :smile:
 
I've had a Cantrell gt series widebody from SOS on my car for 3 years now. My stock fenders were not that much lighter than my widebody ones. I think my CF hood was lighter than the stock one matter of factly. I haven't noticed any performance loss with my mods, including the coilovers and the wheel setup(19's and 18's). basically the car doesn't feel any slower than it was before the transformation

The most important thing to do is find a GOOD and REPUTABLE bodyshop, that will spend the time it takes to fit them correctly. I had to pay another 2k over the original bodyshop estimate to have my kit fitted. My car was gone 7 months. The only issue i have with my kit is there were no fender liners, im sure all widebody owners have this problem. hope this helps.
 
Fit will always be an issue regardless of the kit. Wide body kits will take longer for installation (approx 3-4 months for some). Consequently, the labor cost will be also very high (some as high as $10k). It really depends on what you want to spend your money on. I was initially going the wide body route, but decided for the 02 conversion only, as that alone is still pricey.
 
Lots of underpockets. Original fenderliners will not fit in. Different brand parts may not line up if put together. Ground clearance.

Your car was one that made me want to go wide body. After collecting weights on parts I just could not take the weight increase as I want a track car. The only body part lighter was a Procar all CF unpainted hood only ~1lb lighter than stock. All the finders are heavier and the larger wheels/tires (heavy) are slower with a wider mass pushing air. To make the car faster you would have to spend some major $$$$ with FactorX for a turbo motor :biggrin:

My BIGGEST issue w/ the Marga Hills nose was the lack of driveability. My car was not dumped that low and it was still very difficult to navigate around driveways. It was a pain in the rear to drive anywhere. Fender liners are also an issue..have to have them custom made or don't run any. I ended up w/ the 02 oem nose and Taitec rear qtr panels. Good luck.

Lol, we seem to be on the same page! I'm only a few months away from slapping on a widebody on top of my Factor X turbo. Hopefully, once you see the finished product, it's make you want go widebody all over again, and maybe even think about the Factor X turbo. But then again, you'll just be adding even more parts and only increasing the probability of the the system to fail. :tongue::biggrin:
 
Did I hear correctly that the top must be lifted or removed to remove rear fenders?

Top of what?

Rear fenders are bolted in the top of the trunk and a bolt under the "b" pillar.

Thanks for the compliment. i just spent some bucks on repainting the front bumper, stereo upgrades and some CF upgrades. I had to get a personalized plate(avatar) to celebrate!!
 
The biggest first decision on getting the widebody started is the SHOP. I made two of the biggest mistakes my first two go arounds and then found the charm. Take time to get input from shops and see past work. Also the environment and the personel who will be working on the car. Having to many chefs in one pot will end up in a mess of a whole lot of money spent for no reason. All body kits whether replica or Authentic will need work. I have the original SOrcery kit and it still needed work. I can post pics of the first part of the build if you all are interested. It is time consuming as I did this on the side for spending cash. My car is on its 3rd year of the project but along the way I picked up new mods and new directions. It takes a lot of dedication, time, patience and MONEY to go this route. I would not recommend it unless the person entering has a plan of action and money to spend or a decent hook up. Then again any shop can give you a glorious quote but you get what you paid for. The current shop working on my project has given me a lot of input and we come to an agreement along with labor and parts cost. Having communication with the builder is the KEY to a successful project when it is active. Both the customer and builder have to have terms of agreement in order for any project to work otherwise you can be left in the dust and impatiently waiting for an outcome that never arrives. I am at the end of my WIT but my supporting wife and my focused builder encourage me to keep moving. Without any of this I would have given up and moved on from the money pit. Morale in patience takes a toll on you but without this encouragement, a project can fail. Honestly if I could do it all over again I would just keep it simple. For me there is no next time. I look forward to my builders quest and updates as we progress in the build. So I have listed many factors on a behind the scenes look from a project. Many can tell you they have been on the boat. Another goal is to keep her afloat. Good luck on your endeavors. Your mind tells you, you want more, gotta have the looks blah blah. Just remember more isn't better. I would focus on weak points the NSX has which is minor and roll from there. You will be happy.
