I have a set of 18x8/19x9.5 38mm hp evo wheels and was told by everyone that I needed a 3mm spacer. I got the wheels and they still rubbed the caliper with the 3mm spacer. I ended up getting a 1/4" spacer to make it work. I had posted a thread about this awhile back. I had found a set of identical wheels for sale on a website and the website stated that I would need either a 3mm or a 5mm spacer on the car to clear depending on the year of nsx. It didnt say what years just depends on the year. Can anyone tell me if there was a difference in brakes or suspension or something that would make a bigger spacer necessary?

In 1997 the Front Caliper piston size went up as well as the rotor size, so would think the caliper might increase in size and move in position relative to the center of the hub.

Logic would lead me to believe that you would need a 5mm for the 1997+ and a 3mm for a 1991-1996, but I don't know for sure.

Thats what I would think but I have a 92 and needed the larger spacer. Could the previous owner have upgraded to the larger calipers? How could I tell which one it is?

Don't quote me on this, but from what I understand the 97+ with the upgraded brake system actually has slightly more room than the 91-96. As mentioned above, the calipers themselves are the same size with some minor differences, but they have been moved out to accept the larger rotor via the caliper bracket. Often the design of the rim has more room the further away from the center hub it gets, thus you need a smaller spacer for the 97+ and a larger one for the 91-96.

I see. Thanks for the info.
