Where is a good battery ground in the engine bay?

I have some engine or altenator noise on my audio system and would like to install additional grounding wires in my car. Where is a good battery ground in the engine bay? Does anyone have any suggestions on adding grounding wires i.e. where I should add grounding wires, gauges to use, etc?

i think a better idea is to determine what the issue is. what kind of head unit and amp are you using? what kind of signal wires? where did you ground the amp?

I have a Helix Amp grounded to the battery. The newly installed Kenwood head unit is grounded to the steel cross member in the dash below the radio. there are many other components grounded at this same point. The previous Pioneer AVIC-1 head unit had the same engine?/alternator? whine. The volume of the whine stays constant event when the volume of the Head unit is changed. Turning down the "gain" on the amp does reduce the whine.

My tuner told me that my AEM ECU, and serial gauge were seeing a lot of "noise" and he thought that the car had a grounding deficiency and that adding grounding wires would help. He said that this is pretty common with Hondas.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I'm attaching 2 photos of my recent installation.

wow that is one busy dash :D

where is the amp located? maybe try grounding it closer to the amp itself? how high are the gains?

what type/brand of signal cables are you using and are they run near the power wire?

Steve if you just search with key words :grounding wire, a bunch of informative posts come up:smile:

Yes, the dash has a lot going on... 5 gauges, gauge programmer/controller, Security Alarm warning light, Methanol low level warning light, Methanol spray indicator light, 3-way power switch for accessories, 3-way power switch for auxiliary power outlets and 2 12VDC power outlets under the round black caps. I just finished putting it together and painting it. If you think that is busy you should see my exhaust or my V-1 mounting module!
The head unit has navigation and bluetooth controls on screen to add to the complexity.

The amp is behind the driver's seat.
I turned down the gains very low,... just enough to get volume from the speakers for now until I solve the source of the whining noise.
I am using Monster cables.

John,
I did search grounding kits but I don't know if there is a good ground wire in the engine bay of the NSX that goes directly to the battery that I can use.
I'm hoping someone can provide that answer.

You are outa my league with that Dash:redface: I'm sure Brian or some of the other electronic gurus will chime in.PS ..you two planning on toronto this year?

The factory ground strap bolts to the firewall in front of the motor. The battery's negative cable doesn't go to the back of the car. One of those multi-point grounding kits should help. I'm planning on installing one just for the sake of better grounding and I don't have a noise issue. Unless of course you consider Iron Maiden noise. :)

I do have other issues though. LOL

Hugh, thanks for confirming what I had suspected. I will install grounding wires without a direct battery connection and if that doesn't solve the noise I will run my own ground from the battery to the engine bay.

Jett, thanks for the suggestion. I already tried that and it didn't solve the problem. I am hoping that adding grounding wires will help.
