Where to relocate the cigarette lighter?

With many people getting their dash customized to fit a double din unit, the lighter/ashtray unit often ends up by the wayside. Are any of you relocating your lighter elsewhere in a usable area? I ask because I may be getting some work done to the dash deleting the ashtray, but I would like to relocate the lighter somewhere that I can access it to charge a cell phone or the like...
Any suggestions? Thanks.

take your cigarette lighter out, and have it custom mounted somewhere low on the delete or even where your "coin holder" (square part behind shift boot) is at. eventually i'll be at that step.

Yeah, these 2 spots are what i was thinking would be easiest to do. But i wonder has anyone actually done it (and has pictures) to see what the finished product would look like? Taking a look at the lighter unit, the base seems abnormally large, and could stick out like a sore thumb if not placed in the right area.
What about inside the center console somewhere?

toss-out the center speaker, and...

What about the center-speaker area (in-between the seats on the rear fire-wall/bulkhead)? That speaker is virtually useless for all intents & purposes from my recollection.

Perhaps fabricate a flip-out mount/bezel w/ the 12v cigarette-lighter adapter in it. Even use an after-market 12v cig' lighter or one from another vehicle if the OEM NSX one is too large. That would also keep unsightly wires/etc' out of your line-of-view.

There are a few individuals here on NSX Prime who installed their iPod & cel' phone adapters/chargers in such a location.

Not to be an a$% but do you really need that cigarette lighter - just charge your cell phone over night like most people and you should be good to go for the whole day even on a road trip. If you have a radar detector, hardwire the adapter plug in somewhere. Looks much cleaner without wires going everywhere in the car IMO.

Edit - Okay, a suggestion since that is your question... How about somewhere under the dash, maybe near the OBDII connector or under the ignition key, somewhere out of sight so if you need to plug in an accessory you can but the plug is invisible. As small as the car is you shouldn't have an issue with plug length.

Not to state the obvious, but if I didn't need the power source, why would I bother asking suggestions on where to relocate the ugly thing? I wish I could just forget about the charger, but, too often I've been glad I had one laying around when my cell is dying. I'm in my car, often in traffic, approximately 4 hours every day due to work. Now that Bluetooth/handsfree use is mandatory here, it drains the cell battery much quicker. Couple that with this being my only phone, and its not hard to see why on a particularly "busy" day you can get to the end of the battery life before your day is over. In addition to that, I do take the occasional weekend roadtrip to Vegas (3-4 hours one way on a good day) or San Fran (7 hrs one way), and it would be nice to know that me or a companion can still charge a phone as needed. I do have a detector, and that's already hardwired and cleanly out of the way, so I get your point.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

How about a spare battery - wouldn't help your passangers but then you would't have to worry at all about the relocation. Might even be cheaper when you factor in your time at a cost of labor standpoint.

If you have to have it, I still think you should hide it somewhere under the dash. You can get aftermarket ones, not sure the price that have spring lids on them that you could tuck away somewhere until you needed it and of course with the spring lid the plug hole is always closed off so nothing will get inside such as your finger when you reach for it.

Yes I can be a little an a$% sometimes - it's all in good humor though trust me...

Hmm, I like that idea too. If getting the plug relocated on the dash or tray won't seem to work out cleanly--then this may do the trick. If I can find one that's stealthy enough to be hidden like you said yet easily accessible, that may be the way to go. All is not lost!

Hi

I did this

It still powers the Ipaq and GPS I have there.

If you want to go for a stealth look then this would be it. I can't remember which wires I used.

Regards
