Alright, my recent post about chrome wheels for my 2005 Red NSX got a little off track. Turned into a debate about how much weight chrome adds.

I do not track my car and don't care about weight. I am only concerned about the "OMG" look of the car when I flash by people during my drives.

Vote please!

Thanks!

Are there any style of wheel, color preference that you are more drawn towards ??!? That could narrow the choices a bit

At the top of my head here are some wheel options . ...

- single piece/multi piece
- silver/gunmetal/white/polished/black
- mesh / 5 star / multi spoke / dual spoked
- concave / flat
- deep dish / polish lip / step lip

02+ wheels looks real hot in Dark Gun Metal on a Red NSX lowered! Hyper Silver power coat looks nice too

Kinda depends on the type of OMG you want, that's what I was trying to explain, lots of things can get OMG, but it's not always good. My personal impression of chrome on a sports car is, the owner isn't that into the "sport" aspect of it. A proper color for an aftermarket wheel to me is the metallic colors, with the darker gunmetal type being the best on an NSX. Look at the two leading vote getters in the hottest red nsx category. One is gunmetal and one is black. Ford trucks come with chrome.

But the carbon is fake!!! LOL...

It is an overlay but it is 100% real carbon fiber.

Well an overlay is fake. The wheel is not carbon. And honestly from 5 feet away it's real hard to see a weave so it just looks black. Furthermore there are tons of super cheap and cheesy carbon look wheels out there. I say if you're gonna do it, be real and don't fake it.

I dont want to ruin the OP's thread. I was only referring to your comment of it being fake carbon which it is not. The wheels have an aluminum core but the overlay is real carbon which even even needs to be put in a vacuum for the resin to settle.

I am not sure what others you have seen but the weave is very easy to see and feel.

I didn't know he was trying to advertise wheels. This thread was Rob asking opinions, and I said if a wheel is not real carbon, then looking carbon is fake. It's just my opinion, and if you like carbon overlays on your wheel, that is cool. FYI wheel addicts is one of the companies in the running to get the whole RSII sale so I don't have anything against them.

So please lets not discuss this anymore and derail yet one more thread for Rob. He has a very pretty car and hopefully the polls will give him a better consensus.

You guys crack me up! No worries about the Carbon Fiber! I like to hear everyone's comments.

You all can probably tell by now that I really want chrome but have doubts as to what others might think. I know I shouldn't be concerned about what others think...but the fact of the matter is I do! I am even more concerned about resale as I go through sports cars like most people go through microfiber towels

I am in my 50's. Chrome was the only way to go in my generation. I absolutely love chrome but have my doubts as if it fits with the current generation. I had a huge afro when I was in high school. Looked great then but imagine seeing some white guy walking down the street with a huge afro today....frightening! Is chrome the same nowadays?

I appreciate everyone's feedback...keep it coming!

Is chrome the same nowadays?

YES!!!

LOL...

No, I am kidding. Have you looked through the hottest NSX threads? might give you some ideas. The poll is showing Gunmetal the runaway winner!

Screw the current generation. Go chrome, grow back the fro

From what I have seen in resale, OEM is the biggest bang for your buck. So keep your stock wheels and just pop them back on when you sell. That lets you appeal to 2 key buyers:

1) the people who want the NSX for how Honda built it and hence want it as unadulterated as possible.
2) the people who want to make their own mark and do what they think is cool look at the car as a blank slate for them to begin their work of art.

I didnt know either.

Just threw those two finishes out there as they are popular and wanted to show examples.

My suggestion would be towards a brush finish as it usually appeals to a larger audience than full polish or chrome. Next best is a nice sparkling gunmetal :)

No, chrome is still very much in. I saw quite a few new vettes while driving around this weekend, and they all sported chrome rims. Go to Chevy's site and try to configure a corvette, and you'll see that the chrome wheels are the most expensive finish option. What the public, sports car enthusiasts, and "tuners" perceive as premium finishes are very different things, from what I've found.

my wheels of choice on 2002+ red nsx

bc racing HC050 18/19

here are my personal bling points
- concave
- step lip
- 5 spoke timeless style (can show off big brakes)
- spokes are single spoke that extend to the edge of the wheel so the wheel should look bigger then 18/19s (even more bling)
- on a red car polished silver lips + brushed/silver/gunmetal finish

all IMHO.

Doesn't sound like anyone took your interior color into consideration.

Red/Black - Gunmetal, black, silver, brushed, or polished finish all work well
Red/Tan - Silver, brushed or polished finish.

Red/Tan on gunmetal or black wheels looks mismatched. I would stick with silver or a brushed metal finish.

Totally agree. Here's my 03 red/tan

For my almost dark on dark, I kinda like a clean rounded split 5-spoke with rounded rims in a nice +1 17/18 classic chrome look... Hey, that's what I have!!
When I roll up next to someone on a sunny day here in Az, it's like a grand-opening light show reflecting on the side of their car...
