Why does NSXPrime Registration Info Show up on Google?

I did a simple Google search of my name and found that my NSXPrime registration data comes up with the link to my member's page. Name, birth date, city, NSX year and color as well as "interests". This seems very strange especially since I have registered for a number of websites using my real name and they don't show up on a Google search.

This doesn't seem proper to me so I am deleting this info now. I think that NSXPrime should take steps to block a Google search from having access to this data.

This could easily be solved by creating a robots.txt file which doesn't yet exist for this site AFAIK. What I forgot is if a non registered person here could see our profiles by just clicking on the user's name...

BTW: This belongs of course to the website discussion and not to the general forum.

REALLY?? I think that the general membership should be aware of this.

Lud may decide this but his request for this forum part is:
"General NSX discussion. Directly NSX-related topics only please!"
edit: Lud had obviously decided to move that thread

BTW, Lud, if you want any help, this should be on the robots.txt file:

http://www.nsxprime.com
User-agent: *
disallow: /forums/member

This should work to exclude the member's pages for the crawlers. Please use a text editor to create this file and no html editor like I did now - the NSXPrime URL should not appear as a hyperlink as it does here (I can't alter it, sorry).

Don't list information on a publicly viewable forum if you do not want people to be able to find it.

Lud, I greatly respect and appreciate what you have built at NSXPrime. It is a wonderful resource. But I do think that some changes should be made to prevent Google search from finding this info. As I said, I have registered with several other auto related sites and that info doesn't seem to be found by Google search.

I believe that in the optional data portion of the User Profile, there is a statement to the effect of: "We are a close knit community and full names are encouraged." I listed my name expecting that NSXPrime had precausions in place to largely prevent open distribution of that information.

olde,

i feel your pain and i, personally, have a case of extreme paranoia over the years wrt my personal information. the safest approach is the one you've just taken - minimal info; as for the other sites, etc, it's likely they've taken proactive measures to mask the information you've provided.

(help, the paranoids are after me :)

I think that I have been naive. I am going to change my ways in light of the marked increase in identity theft. No point in helping those folks out. That is why I Googled my name in the first place.

Oh crap. Does this mean that people will find out my name is not really Neo??? :D

Real identify theft is achieved by exploiting loopholes in public information systems like birth/marriage/death certificates, drivers licenses, passports, credit card issuing, etc.. Finding out a person's name on a website is like looking up a phone directory. You still need the papers to become that person.

And last time i checked, Prime doesn't sell fraudulent documents in the Sales area. Maybe try eBay. :p

depending on the depth of information that a person has provided to various sites - name, address, phone number, etc - many bogus pieces of new identity may be created to, eventually, falsify a new identity.

get real.
