Why don't more owners run cams?

HP Academy has a video on cam timing adjustments, you have to pay for it but just reading the synopsis gives a pretty good idea of what the process is. https://www.hpacademy.com/courses/h...ng-process-optimising-cam-timing-on-the-dyno/

When the motor is going together I'd have valve clearances checked at the baseline timing as well as advanced or retarded by 5 degrees or so.
I love the HP Academy! They post some good stuff and have a lot of interesting reads. Engine Labs are great as well although I feel as if they focus on domestic brands a little more. All great stuff though!

DAL motorsports had a good explanation of cam timing on the C30 on his NSX racing page. I think the wayback machine can still grab it.

I haven't looked into the actual step by step process of performing cam timing adjustments on an engine dyno but since i'm on the Toda C's, my fear is we screw up the timing enough where metal to metal contact can happen

Just check it!

"Cam Timing versus Valve-to-Piston Clearance: The exhaust valve is generally closest to the piston at 10 degrees BTDC, while the intake valve is generally closest to the piston at 10 degrees after top dead center (ATDC). Given these clearances, it should become obvious that either advancing or retarding the camshaft will result in tighter or looser valve-to-piston clearances. If you anticipate advancing or retarding the cam, you should check valve-to-piston clearance in both scenarios before assembling the engine." - https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/valve-to-piston-clearance/

@Ojas has rehosted that site on his personal site https://ojas.net/nsx/mirror/dal#Cam Gears

When using off the shelf camshafts like Toda though I do not expect to see much if any gain from changing the centerlines once they are degreed to spec.
