Why oh Why must Corvette owners always do the Flyby?

I know this has been covered here before, but I just get so tired of the ol' mullet flyby that I must vent.

Whenever I drive my Acura it seems as if every middle aged Vette owner with a bad rug wants to somehow prove his mettle by "racing" me.
This morning I'm driving to work on the freeway, just staying with traffic when this little '90s C4/C5 with all the obligatory gold chains, mullet and tattoos starts riding my tail. I move over to let him pass but he stays right on me. I move over to the left lane to pass another car and he STILL is riding me, but this time before I could merge back to the right he stands on the gas and flys by on my right, then takes the next exit. All the while I stayed right at 70mph.

I can just imagine he's on some Corvette Forum now posting "I smoked a Ricer this morning!!"

Thanks for letting me vent...

LOL, most are probably ignorant at the fact that the NSX only makes 270/290 HP so they want to get a running start.

So which owners are jealous? Explain it to me.

Don't pay attention to him. When ever Jack and Yolanda are out he is always doing flybys with me. It's the NSX, it's the Corvette, it's the 280Z and did you see that Schwinn parked in the background? Yes, he even tried with that. It's just Jack.

Proof Doug that Schwinns lead to the hard stuff and promote flybys on lesser equipment.

Yup been there.
I just wait until they pull up behind me, and then I just do a very hard left turn.
Newer Vettes can sometime follow, but any earlier Vettes without traction control just can't follow the cornering that the NSX can perform.

The Ones with the uglier American cars that aren't lucky enough to have ying and yang. But clearly you are bi-polar :)

Who put those cars in my backyard and who the Hell is Ying yang? Somebody call a doctor!

Huh. That almost never happens here, and I see up to 10 different vettes on the way to work every day. They almost outnumber civics.

I had a very similar situation tonight on the way home from work. I was driving my 03 Accord and a C5 vette is doing about 60 in the left lane. I am in the middle doing about 70 and start passing him. He speeds up to match me and then starts lurching forward. He then floors it and flys ahead, hits his brakes and lines back up with me. He did this twice. I left my cruise at 70 the whole time and had to laugh. Was he really threatened by my 4 door family sedan? I tend to laugh and just let them go on their way once they realize that I am not interested.

The ones that dont have NSXs.....duh....is it really that hard to understand??

Roger, great way to make friends in your local NSX chapter. I'll have the secretary (My wife Yo) log your comments in your chart.

well at the risk of not making any more friends.........

I see the same sh-t all the time too with corvettes, and mustangs. It's just being immature and stupid. I think it's all a Mid-Life crisis issue. I guess it can go both ways.

I usually just race them. In 3 years of owning my NSX, I've yet to lose to anyone. A 400hp Corvette can NOT outrun a 290hp NSX in highway pulls.

hrm....

I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or just trying to stir the pot. But… Are you sure those Corvettes were racing you?

I think he is just trying to stir the pot again... he has done it before.

Here are the times for a NSX 0-150MPH vs a corvette 0-150MPH:

May 1997 MT, 1997 NSX-T 0-100 11.8, 0-100-0 16.3 (FYI 97 vette did it in 11.1/15.7). The NSX also hit 150.2 MPH in 34.0 seconds.

Sept 2002 1997 Comptech NSX-T (claimed 460HP -- yeah right), 0-100 10.3 0-150 28.8 (i put the 0-100 and 100-150 times together) not sure how accurate that is, however, they said 100-150 was 9.8 seconds faster than a stock 97 NSX. That puts 100-150 @ 26.9. They said stock 0-100 was 11.7. That puts a stock NSX at 0-150 @ 38.6 done the same method.

August 1998... THE IMFAMOUS NSX... -- FASTEST one ever tested.... I think someone on prime owns this car. It rocks.
1998 NSX coupe, 0-100 10.6 0-150 MPH 28.2 -- faster than the 460HP CTSC above... still 3 seconds slower than the 05 vette.

Car and Driver, Zanardi NSX 0-100 11.8, 1/4 13.2 @ 106, 0-150 MPH 34.7

July 1995 0-150MPH 0-100: 13.8 1/4 @ 103mph, 0-150 MPH 45.5

A stock C6 LS2 does 0-150 in 25 seconds. Nearly 10 seconds faster than the Zanardi.

A stock 2008 C6 does it in 23.5 http://www.caranddriver.com/assets/d..._z51_08_ss.pdf

A stock C6 Z06 does it in 17.5 seconds. 17.2 seconds faster than the Zanardi.

Anyway, I love both cars and also realize I will most likely never race either car to 150MPH. I did play around with NSX-Files on the highway in his 91 with Headers and Exhaust and Chip ~ 290HP and it wasn't close. We did it with me driving the vette and then me driving the NSX. Plus if you are out of VTEC, forget it.

I would like to here from yojack1 on the subject since he owns both these cars and is one lucky guy.

ooooooooooooooohhh... busted, Roger! She's gonna put that down in your permanent record, then it'll be "discovered" when you run for office. You won't be able to get a job. Your credit will be ruined. (BTW, that's Yolanda's 'vette that Jack is doing the fly-by's in!)
