Will 6 3/4" components fit the SOS Door Speaker panel?

So I picked up one of the last Zetoolman V3 boxes and I figured, what the heck, might as well upgrade the front speakers too.

I've been looking around and I've noticed that 6 3/4" speakers are becoming more in the main stream. More specifically I've been looking at the Pioneer Premier TS-C720PRS which are 6 3/4".

Does anyone know if these will fit the SOS door panels without any clearance issues?
The Pioneers (though not Focal, which is in a range more than I want to spend) seem to be reviewed quite well with their MSRP at ~$550 but a street price of only ~$230.

What do you guys think? Will the fit?

The problem isn't the hole in the speaker panel, but the hole in the aluminum door panel and the space available on the inside of the inside door panel. You should first measure the size in the inside of the door panel to the speakers outer diameter. If the speaker will clear, then, using a spacer, the speaker would probably fit into our panel shown here:

Ultimately, you may find that a custom fiberglass speaker enclosure where the speaker sits would be the best solution for a larger speaker like this. However, due to the small cabin size of the NSX - I don't think you're going to gain much from a larger driver if you have a subwoofer in the car taking care of your low frequency that doesn't depend on sound stage placement as much.

take care,

Also, looking at that pic of the Pioneers I can tell you that crossover will not fit in the door panel. Too thick. Ok, now moving the crossover out of the door panel posses three problems. One, where to put them. Two, now you have to run two wires into the door instead of one (tweeter and woofer). Three, longer run of speaker wire from the trunk or behind the seat or wherever you mount them. Not a big deal, but it is something that will make things more difficult than finding a component set where the crossover fits in the door.

FYI: 6-3/4" speakers won't give any better sound quality than a 6-1/2" ESPECIALLY if you are also going to run a sub.

For the record I am running stock HU, Alpine PDX amp, 10" sub and Dynaudio 240GT 6-1/2" (by far the best car audio speakers I have ever owned).

Thanks CL65
As much as I'd like to get a set of Dynaudio or Focal speakers I just can't justify the price. I'd like to spend $250 max on a pair of speakers. I'll be running Zetoolman's V3 sub box with a 10" Earthquake using the stock stereo and a 4 channel amp.

Also, according to the fitment diagram, the Pioneers are 6 1/2" from mounting hole to mounting hole (so I don't know where they get 6 3/4" from). So is 6 3/4" some sort of marketing gimmick?

Lastly, how much space do you have behind the door panel? From this picture it looks like you could mount a fairly thick crossover. . but then again, I don't exactly how close those are to the back of the door panel. ..

I didn't measure, but I do know it is a tight fit between the crossover and the door pannel, especially if you mount it like in the picture. My Boston Pros were small, no problem. My Dynaudios also small. My MBQuart Qs were a little thicker and just barely fit but had to move it here and there to find a spot where it would. Off the top of my head, anything approaching 2"+ is not going to fit.

For reference - these x-overs just barely fit, I mean barely.

Do you know if the Polk SR6500 crossovers will fit in the door? I've read they are fairly large.

Never heard of them, but the Audison amp in the kit is good stuff. Appears that the company that owns Hertz, Elttromedia, also owns Audison.

Since were on the topic of door speakers (specifically separates = tweeters and mid range)......where do people usually mount the tweeters? I know some has drill holes in their door panels, but are there other options other than that to get good imaging/sound?

I have the same question. I remember on my other cars, I loved to flush mount the tweeters in the door. I am not so sure on my NSX as I don't wan't to kill the resale value and like the stock look. What do you guys think about this? It probably isn't a big deal, but I just thought I'd ask.

i bought my sos speaker mounts last month and installed mbquarts. the magnet is pretty deep on the ones i bought. I personally think that the 6.75 speakers will clear the door. if they dont clear the window when it rolls down, make another plate to go on top of the sos plates... just something simple like 1/4 inch mdf... really easy... the sos plates are pretty thick. I also was concerned when i installed my speakers but when i saw the width of the sos plates all of my concerns went away..

oh, btw, the quality of the sos plates are amazing..

kudos to chris and the guys at sos.. thank god i live in arizona...

CHRIS, if you are reading this post, i could use a nice set of wheels for real cheap... lol..

We usually mount them in the door panel. However, if you're concerned about cutting into it - I've seen them installed into the A-pillar cover. Any decent shop should be able to graft in a mount and recover.

Thanks for the feedback. Have you seen some of the wheels we have in stock? The set of Work Emotion CR's come to mind.

Cheers,
