Will a 2002 exhaust fit on a 93?

Hi Dave,

The exhaust system went through a significant change in 1997. So it will not fit without mods, as in welding, etc on a 1993. Not worth it IMO.

Larry, in another thread it was said that it would only cost like $50 to make it work... why would you think that is not worth it?

$50 bucks is just a guess.... to make different pipes(just from the muffler back) to get the 2002 system to plug into the 93. You can also upgrade your exhaust system by using after market bypass/test pipes(no cats) I believe and then be able to bolt the 97+ sytle exhaust on. Atleast I think so. :p

This diagram may help. The 95-96 exhausts share the same profile as the 91-94 exhausts. Due to a cat converter change, the distance between the converter and exhaust increased. Honda used adaptor pipes between the exhaust and converters for these years (perhaps to deplete inventory?). In 1997, the basic shape was retained, however, the adaptor pipes and exhaust are now one piece. The flange on the exhaust - converter junction changed to a ball socket design.

This is why customers with later models buying aftermarket exhausts pay extra for the additional hardware required. 95-96 owners can retain the factory adaptor pipes, although the ID of aftermarket exhausts are commonly different than the factory exhaust.

Due to the design change of the shape and flange, it would require significant cutting and welding to install a later model exhaust on a 91-96 NSX.

You will also need to change out the stock exhaust manifolds.

Dave,

Considering all the aftermarket guys have separate products for the 1991-1996 vs. 1997+, and the fact I have removed and installed many :), I think it really is not worth it, and will be a "home brew" setup at best.

The cats are in different positions as are the flanges. Maybe a 1996 version which also has the single outlet round pipes would be a better choice, since it will bolt up.

I had not even thought it through to the exhaust manifolds!!!!

fagetaboutit..................

thanks for all the help guys... I guess it doesn't make much sense. Oh well.

I tried to do a search, no luck.
Sorry that this thread was 9 years ago, have to brought it up again.

I really like the exhaust tip from OEM 95-96, if I have a 91, what do i need to make the 95/96 exhaust fit on my 91, or just basically remove the additional adaptor pipe?
I don't plan to get after market exhaust, but will 95/96 exhaust sound different than my 91 exhaust?
Any posssible performance change?

buy some tips at any local parts store that look similar bolt them on be drive away.

with the new look.

no perfomance gains.

It can be done but will be a waste of money doing. No performance gained or sound. Your best bet is finding some tips that looks like it and take it to a muffler shop and get it installed. Much cheaper that way and will give you the look you want .

Caroline-NSX I said the same thing but you said it better and nicer LOL

I had a pride V1 on my car for a week. killed my brain took it off put the stock back on went to Discount Auto parts and purchased some huge tips
with 3 bolts each, bolted them on and I am happy.
if you got under my car you will know they are bolt on tips but outside looking down you would never know.

Nice thread bump. Good luck with finding inexpensive tips that look like the 95-96 tips. I was unsuccessful, but my good buddy Chase let me use his Comptech exhaust on my 93, so that rendered the quest unnecessary (plus the Comptech sounds amazing IMO).

95-96 will fit a 91 no problem- you just need to remove the adapters.

I have 98 headers on a 91 muffler and it is awesome.

If I need to bolt a tip onto the stock exhaust, then I have to find a muffler shop to cut my stock tip, right? that's what I would like to avoid because I will need to weld it back on one day.

Off topic, the main reason I like the 95-96 exhaust is mainly for the look since I am very happy with the 91 power. I did look into the aftermarket exhaust(ARK, RS-R, comptech etc), most of them are pretty loud and I prefer an exhaust slightly louder than oem and hopefully with a very deep tone. I drove a stock nsx with GTLW for a couple days before, it was loud and the drone around 2500-3000rpm really hurts my brain. According to SOS, this should be the best sounding exhaust, sorry but somehow I didnt learn to appreciate it. Do u guys have any other suggestion? hopefully a single tip.

Yes you will have to cut off your stock tips to install some new ones. If you like the 95-96 exhaust look so much maybe you should just buy a use 95-96 exhaust install it and store your 91 stock exhaust. You can probably find 95-96 exhaust for less than $300.

Comptech Exhaust is one of the smoothest exhaust out there. Matter of fact it is the only smoothest exhaust there is. The rest is loud or too loud. And its a single tip each side. You can also find a use Comptech Exhaust for less than $600. AND the Comptech Exhaust isn't that much louder than the stock exhaust .

Only if you compare Gen1 to stock. CT Gen2 was significantly louder than Gen1. I was a little shocked when I first installed it but it sounds pretty good. But apart from that it was much louder than stock. Gen3 which is sold now is more like Gen2 than Gen1.

I did come across a couple comptech exhaust videos on youtube, some of them are loud and some of them seemed smooth, but most of them has SC which I don't know if the volume will be different than my stock 3.0.
In addition, I have not idea if it is gen 1, gen 2 or gen 3........

At one point, I thought RS-R seems pretty good, but i don't like that dual tip.....

Any of you know any video that has a gen 1 comptech exhaust with stock motor? I should go to some local meeting to check out more.

CT gen 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkp_Y7L1CFo
CT gen 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAJDhvC8LLQ
Notice the smaller canister of the gen2 and the different tips, SC doesn't make a difference in those 'testing scenarios'. Even with different cameras you would not hear the SC whining with a gen 2 exhaust while blipping the throttle.
Hope this helps.

If CT is reading here: an exhaust with a sound in between the two would be the perfect match an still an silent alternative to the loud girlies out there. :)
