Will this work?

Yes, the fronts may rub. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any R compound tires in the "ideal" front size of 215/40-17. Which means your choices are going slightly undersized (many R comps are available in 205/40-17) or going oversized (215/45-17 or 235/40-17).

In the rear, 275/35-18 is available in most R comps. A few are available in 265/35-18, including the Toyo R888 and Yokohama A048. Both of these also come in 215/45-17; the R888 also comes in the other two 17" sizes I mentioned.

It is very frustrating, I want something that is R compound for dedicated track use. I'll keep researching and maybe next year Yokohama will introduce newer size for their OT approved tires????

Thanks everyone for the info.

Have you considered Hoosier R6's ? They make them in both 205/40R17 and 225/40R17 both are the same diameter as a 215/40R17 tire 23.8"

215/45-17 will fit, I had them on my car. If your really low the tire will rub on the fender liner if you hit a bump. You will most likely be fine in this regard, but you will rub at full lock whick isn't a big deal imo, since you are rarely ever at full lock.

Personally I'd go with the 235/40-17 over 215/45-17 up front as its a wider tire, makes the car more neutral, improves turn in and reduces understeer.

Going to get a wide fender, about 20mm wider on each side with no inner liner. Would this set up work? 235/40R/18(F) 265/35R/18(R). Will that affect the TCS & the wheel bearings. Pls understand that this is mainly track use only an the occasional street use.

Thanks!!

Peter
