Window regulator has claimed another victim

I spent all day trying to put the driver's side window fix it thingy in and I couldn't get the cables to fit in fix it thingy piece. And to top it all off, my window would go up and down in slow intervals when in the half way position. The cabling was lubricated so I decided to open the window regulator to see what in the world is going on. The freaking thing had a bird nest in it just like an open face fishing reel   The window regulator seems to be working fine. The cabling is the only thing that is jacked up. I'm going to try to see if I can just fix the cable. I figure why pay $300 plus for just a broken cable  For now, I am unable to move my window up and down  Update to follow....

Well, I have tried to work on the window regulator and I am finding out that I don't have enough time to work on it. I have talked to a gentlemen by the name of Alexander at Mirror Guard CO and he claims he can rebuild these for $55. He does not rebuild motors. I'll be sending my window regulator to him today. If this works, this will be a new way to do things for the NSX community.

As mentioned before, I mailed off my window regulator to be repaired. I was called today and told my window regulator has already been fixed and has been benched tested. Now that's cool. I am looking forward to installing it next week. Alexander may turn out to be the "Frank Irvine" for window regulators ;)

I finally got my window regulator back today. With the energy level that I had, it almost felt like XMAS :p I attached a picture of my window regulator which I received back from Mirror Guard CO to show everyone the quality work that they provide. Beats spending $400 for a new one :p When I sent Alexander my window regulator, both of my window regulator boots were ripped, the cover plate on the back of the window regulator had a torn tab, the plastic spool was completely worn, and it needed a new cable and end stops. Alexander fixed all of these for $55 and when I got it back, it looked like brand new. Prior to attaching it back to the window, I installed the window regulator back in my car and operated the window regulator up and down from the window control button. It worked fine with no problems. He even greased it up for me

But I am still having problems with my window going up  When I press the window up button, it goes up in half an inch intervals and stops. So to put my window up, I have to press the window up button about 20-25 times :( Now to put the window down, I only have to press the button once and it goes down smoothly. Ruling out that the window regulator is bad, I think it is one of three things. Either I need to adjust the window adjustments inside the door, the power window module that is hooked up to my alarm that gives me control of my window is causing the problem, or I wonder is it the black box that is between the window regulator and control button? In regards to the window, what does this black box do  It is located behind the door panel just slightly forward of the inside door handle. I hear a clicking noise from it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I wonder if it is catching on the track and cutting the power to the motor? I know some cars, unsure of the NSX, have a power cutoff if someone or something is in the path of the window on rollup. I replaced the window regulator on my car and it still went up slow and choppy. Turned out there was a problem with the window catching on the track.

If it is catching on the tracks, are there adjustments to preclude this from happening? What did you end up doing?

On my car there was a little plastic clip which was broken. This was causing the window to bind as it was going up because the back edge of the window was not lined up properly. I took it to the dealer twice to have it fixed, both times they fixed the wrong part. The second time I tried to get them to take off the door panel while I was there and they said they did not have the time to do so. I finally gave up. I have since sold the car.

Which plastic clip

I can not remember exactly what was broken. I found a piece of broken plastic in the bottom of my door when I had the panel off to install the thingy part. I do remember my widow shucked back and fourth quite a bit. This was not noticeable with the door panel on but very noticeable with the door panel off. I would suggest, take your door panel off look for and plastic pieces in the bottom of the door. Also run the window up and down and see if it is binding on anything. Sorry I wish I could be more precise about what exactly was broken.

Is it just me or does your picture of your new regulator have broken wires on it? It looks like you only have one wire connected?

I tried to salvage mine and it ended up working like you describe. When the wire breaks, it winds incorrectly and has too much tension. This is only a problem when rolling the window up. Rolling down is much easier and worked well with my broken one. I'd check the tension of the wire - I'll bet it's too tight. Perhaps you can send it back and have him unwind it one turn and try it again.

I bought the new regulator and it works great. The new regulator replaces so much of the mechanism that further problems have to be limited to window alignment.

The wires are not connected because there is a control box that hooks up to it to allow me to roll my window down from my alarm control unit. I use this to get in my car when it is on the car trailer :D

It wasn't doing this until I put a load on it meaning the window. It works fine when the window is not connected to the window regulator.

I figured out that it is most likely something to do with glass adjustment. I found out that the window goes up perfectly if I slightly press the window, from the inside of the car, outward. Adjustment directions are on page 20-(14-17) of the service manual so I'll be using this as a reference

Ty,

Did this work out for you? I'm getting ready to order a "fixed" regulator.

I haven't tried it yet....guess I've been a little too lazy to adjust the window

On a different note, the repair on the window regulator worked out ok.

Are you sure the repaired regulator works 100%? I'm getting ready to send mine off.

Yes it does. I initially plugged it up to make sure it moves up and down and it did. The window issue that I have now and the window regulator are not germane.
