wining noise 3rd gear

can anyone suggest reason 3rd gear has a slight wine when not accelerating? No noise under power but off gas or with clutch in a wining noise.

Noise means play and this means that your 3 rd gear is wearing out. If it's not excessive I'd live with it until another major work has to be done on the car.
