I just got this straight from Bruce himself, Nomura Tuning and Design that HiPerformance LLC is begining their HiPer Turbo (formerly Aerocharger) production phase! According to Bruce, over the past 2 years, HiPerformance LLC has competively tested and developed a smoother, quieter, and more roboust VATN turbocharger than before!

"btw thanks guys... the recently posted Aerocharger repair that I thought I needed ended up costing me a phone call to the TurboDoc, a can of brake-clean and a couple rags!"

getting back... Improved manufacturing and balance procedures, ceramic ball bearings as well! It's been a while since I've known Bruce to be so excited about an automotive related item, and if you saw his last creation on overboost.com (IS V300) I'm assured the HiPer Turbo is gonna be substantial!

Maybe this helps:

As you may recall, the HiPer Turbo is a variable geometry, ceramic ball bearing turbocharger with it’s own self-contained lubrication.

Current Update:
A great deal has happened over the past two years. Engineering and manufacturing have been working to ensure that our very unique turbocharger will measure up. Our turbochargers now have successfully competed in competition and have been applied to known applications all in an effort to verify that indeed we have a very robust turbocharger.

We are happy to report that we have been able to service many of the Aerochargers previously made by the now closed Aerodyne of Dallas. Our change in manufacturing philosophies is paying off with a smoother, quieter running turbo. Our advances in bearing manufacturing and Balance procedures are second to none. We are exiting our prototype phase and moving into production. Units are still very limited during this “Prototype” phase. Units we be readily available in the near future as we ramp-up into “Production” phase.

HiPerformance, LLC pledges to keep you informed as we continue to make every effort to ramp-up supply to meet sales. As we are able to expand into new markets, we will keep you informed.

Currently, we have a limited numbers of turbos available for applications up to 220 hp in the motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile and automobile markets. More horsepower per unit is in the works and will be a part of the production units. Oil for all self-contained HiPer style turbochargers is ready available so please check your supply. Please check out the video of a twin turbo snowmobile at www.HiPerTurbo.com

Thanks you for your interest in the world’s most advanced turbocharger.

So is it an Aerodyne with improved innards, or is it a new, "true" innovation in turbo design? To me it sounds like they have finally worked out the bugs in what was supposed to be a great design 8 years ago. Also, are the variable veins electronically controlled or is it done using physical methods?

It is a spin-off (pun intended) of the Aerodynes by the original patent holders. The design had been licensed to Aerocharger.

Odd that they make a big deal about "smoother, quieter". I've still got them and I don't see how they could be any smoother or quieter than the originals. Perhaps their location on the NSX is just so well isolated that I never noticed, but I've followed them from the beginning (closer to 18 years than 8) and never heard complaints of that type.

Anyway, I've been hoping they would make this work and come to market.
