Zonda doing a lap at the Ring.

Very fast. However, that's slightly faster than the Nissan GTR so there might be an error somewhere in their data logging equipment..

I just creamed in my pants.

Well ever since Nissan said the GT-R in stock form did 7:35, the supercar world has been trying to prove themselves. Especially since the GT-R Spec V is suppose to be 530hp and 250# lighter :)

So Zonda got a 7:27 which means they JUST beat Porsche Carrera GT in Stock Form. The Zonda was at 7:33 which means if this is stock, then the driver must have been real good to gain 5 seconds on the ring.

Nissan is doing the Ring again trying to beat 7:32 which means it would have bumped Koenigsegg CCR @ 7:34, Zonda F @ 7:33, 997 GT2 @ 7:32. Basically the only stock car left would have been the Carrera GT. Now if the Zonda is stock, they are back on the list again from being spared by the 60-80k GT-R

Out of curiosity, where did you get this story? Sounds like it would make for great blog reading material.

Dont wanna be a wiseguy, but having driven the ring a few times, i can't see what difference a few seconds make.

Bragging rights of course! It's the same difference between one manufacturer saying their car does the quarter mile in 12.6 then their competitor coming along bragging theirs does it in 12.5, or that their car brakes 60-0 in one less foot.

Obviously, the thing i cant see is how you can brag over 2 or 3 seconds on this track.

Wow that vid looks really violent at certain spots...when he hits the side strips...or whatever they are called....very cool though!!!

I know I know every time I think something posted is CG I get walloped for doubting, but something struck me as odd,did you notice that the drivers head never really moves from side to side as much as you would expect from the violent speed and nature of that track.

Is that an official time on the Gt-R? Seems awfully fast for a car that is so freaking heavy with only 480HP. The zonda is between 800-1000lbs lighter with more HP and does it only 7 seconds faster? The Z06 is 600lbs lighter and more HP and is slower by 7 seconds?

Something just doesn't seem right to me.

Time will tell.

BTW, LOVE the Zonda video! It looks much harder in real life than it does on PGR4 :)

Anyone know how to download the video instead on watching a stream of it?

Thanks a lot, you just killed an hour of my sleep learning to decompile flash code and wading through it instead of going to bed :P. I finally found the actual video source file here:

http://www.runimation.businesspage.at/Record.flv

Once you've downloaded the above file (70+ meg), you can play it by installing this:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

If you want to convert the FLC file to MPG, you can do it with this:
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

The attempt at the record was in honor of late F1 driver Fangio, and I think the old record for production cars held by the Carrera GT is since before Nissan even started testing the GT-R on the Ring, so to assume that the Nissan GT-R is the cause of the stir is just silly. Records are ment to be broken and people try it all the time.

And the car in the record attempt was a completley stock Zonda F Club sport, borrowed from a Pagani customer.

Best sounding car ever btw!!

I notice that here again, a Nurburgring time attack is performed without including the paddock straight, just the like GT-R and the NSX-R. More confirmation that this is an accepted and standard timing methodology and the NSX-R's time was not an "incomplete lap."

Can't say its a 'stock' Zonda F.
RacingHeart states its the Clubsport doesnt that have more power and extra shifter lights not in the standard one.
God I love the Zonda's ! amazing video and sound.

CGT GT1- similar power to what Gemballa CGT mirage makes.

we live in a sad time.... there is no such thing as a supercar anymore :frown:
you got $30k sedans that can give a ferrari a run for its money.... and $80k coupes that is within the realm of some of the most expensive cars.

one conclusion:
the japanese know how to do way more with less.

nissan needs to build a supercar. their GT-R is way beyond most cars (even the older GT-Rs). they handle amazingly. imagine what they could do with a car that sits on the ground, has more hp, doesn't necessarily have to be very streetable, and weighs less.

This is absolutely the accepted methodology for timing on the Nordschleife. Anyone who claims the NSX-R didn't do a proper lap is a complete ignoramus.

I used to hear those protests but they've died down in the last few years because people realized they're flat-out incorrect.
All official non-competition lap times end several hundred meters short of the start line--always have, always will.

All the numbers being thrown around in the official publications reflect times well into the 7:30 range and I agree--it's nothing short of amazing for a 480hp 3800 lb car.

If this car actually performs as advertised and costs $70-80K then I think it's safe to say the GT-R is about to make NSX-in-1991 type waves in the auto world.

All I have to say is good for Nissan. There's no reason whatsoever Honda couldn't have developed a car with similar or better potential by now. :frown:
