Gallardo vs. R8?

Hello fellows,

In a year, I am planning to purchase a new car. I have been doing some research on Gallardo vs. Ferrari. Gallrado and F430 are about the same price at this time. From what I found out Gallardo is much more reliable than F-car and requires more maintenaince than L-car, and of course there are pros and cons of each car. F-car handles better and is more agile than L-car. To me, L-car has more exotic look than F-car and more reliable. So far I have eliminated F-car unless someone here can convince me it is better in every category.

Now, the question is Gallardo vs. R8? They are all from the same parent Audi. I would assume that they are equally reliable. I would like your inputs- exotic look, driving, and reliable between the two. Will R8 be considered a collectible car? thank you

I would purchase the Gallardo hands down. The R8 and the Gallardo are both awesome cars, but I have to give it to the Gallardo on looks and sound.

This might be a brash thing to suggest, but why not drive them both, and buy the one you like better? Don't get hung up on brand recognition so much.

+1

I was set to get a Gallardo until I sat in one from the NSX meet in NC. I was extremely disappointed due to the dead pedal location. It was really bad and not a comfortable location for me..Nothing like the R8 and the NSX. I know something as simple as that would stop me from buying one. But it did.
Now If I was given it...I wouldn't care

You also might want to consider you get a warranty with the R8.

There you go wrecking my internet bench racing / fan boi.

I haven't driven either so who the hell am I to give advice...

Of course you are right- he should drive both and decide based on whichever one he prefers.

R8 has awesome looks from different angles. I think Gallardo looks will diminish over a short time and then return as a classic just like what happened to the Miami Vice Testarossa. R8 is timeless like NSX. Just my opinion.:confused:

Just 2 years ago you could throw a Ford GT into that price range mix and I would say, Now your talkin'. That would have been my choice over all 3!

Gallardo for sure. Save yourself some $$ and buy one a year old with a few hundred miles on it.

There is a problem. I cannot just walk it and they will hand me a key to test drive $100K + car. There will be a purchase agreement paper to fill out. Screw that!

So you'd spend $100K+ on a car without driving it first ?

I haven't driven a Gallardo, but I have driven an R8, and it is exquisite.

Are you kidding? I would never buy a car without being able to drive it first. If you are serious about the car, they should let you drive it.

Wow, now this is surprising. I thought the NSX has one of the worst dead pedals. I feel like there's no room there to even put my foot. It's all got to do with the small car and wheel well...

haha yeah the Ford GT is definitely the edgier, hardcore car of the 3

but even so, when it comes to considering actual ownership, the Ford does have many downsides

if costs were no problem, I would say that the F430 is best of them all

the Audi R8, while having very beautiful details, when observed as a whole, can be very bland. especially if the owner chose the silver paint, the car is sometimes mistaken for a TT coupe.

there is nothing bland about the Gallardo - it does not have the intricate design details of the R8, but it does have a very pronounced appearance. I would prefer the Gallardo over the R8.

anyone know what first-gen Murcielago's are going for?

I would assume that they are equally reliable.

VW and Porsche have the same parent company too. Fiat and Ferrari, etc. Not sure there are too many parallels. My assumption would be Lambo owners don't expect reliability, don't mind $20-$30,000 tunesups. Audi supercar owners, I would assume, expect reliability and to be able to put miles on the car.

Definitally something I would research...

I hear people say this from time to time and my response if you need to get your eyes checked.

Why not get a new clutch while your at it. God knows you will need one in a few hundred miles more. Why should a car with 5k on the clock need a new clutch? I see this all the time with the Gallardo. I like to looks of the R8 over the Gallardo, and the fit and finish in the R8 is surprisingly better then the Gallardo. The cost of upkeep on the Gallardo is ridicules, just to keep it on the road.

Love the R8 but have never sat in one. The G interior is very nice, and the seating position is surprisingly nice. Better than a 997 IMHO. To me, a big downside with the G is that it completely lacks a trunk. It has a compartment up front that can fit a briefcase or two shoe boxes, but that's it. So, for fun around town it's great but you'd have a hard time taking it on an overnight trip. Anyone know if the R8 has any trunk space?
