Yeah, it seems comical how many threads I've started featuring the release of another not quite Gran Turismo 5 for PS3...but here is another one:

The Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Challenge, first announced December 3, will start this Thursday on December 17, 2009 and run through January 25, 2010. Players will be able to download the demo directly to their PlayStation 3 consoles via the PlayStation Network starting this Thursday.

The demo was specifically designed for this competition to showcase the realism of the brand-new physics engine and to challenge players’ driving skills using professional driving physics and many of the driving assists disabled. The full Gran Turismo 5 will feature multiple driving assists and various settings that can be changed to make the game easier or more challenging and realistic.

The Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Challenge will allow players to compete in two time trial events with stock and tuned versions of the Nissan 370Z, on a special road course layout of the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The player with the fastest combined lap time for both time trial events will win VIP packages to the 2010 Indianapolis 500® Mile Race next May, with one winner chosen from the US and one from Canada.

Each winner will receive round-trip airfare and hotel accommodations for two (winner and guest) to attend the 2010 Indianapolis 500® Mile Race, a.k.a. the Indy 500®, in May. Each winner will also receive a VIP package that includes two all-access passes for Carb Day® (final Indy 500® practice, pit stop competition, special concert festivities, special event car rides in a 2010 Indy 500® event vehicle), all-access passes to the garage, pit area, and Victory Lane for pre- and post-race celebrations for the race, and two VIP suite tickets to enjoy the race.

Additionally, five runner-ups in the US and five in Canada will receive a voucher code for the PSP version of Gran Turismo.

Too bad the real game is delayed AGAIN. Now "eying" Summer 2010.

In the mean time, I am loving forza3 and Fanatec!

Is it a delay when an official date for the U.S. was never announced before?

Still slated for March, 2010 in Japan...but, as far as I know, the only words given about a North American release is "shortly after". Of course, "shortly" means something different for Polyphony Digital.

Believe me, I am starting to think more about Forza 3. Especially because I know what I am getting for Xmas...

Sorry guys.

The worst thing about it is that even though I am seriously dissappointed to have been made to wait nearly well over 2 years for the game- I will still probably buy it, as will millions of other guys just like me. Polyphony will make a ton of money, and this sort of garbage will be considered acceptable.

Kinda pisses me off to get strung along like this.

Get Revenge: Forza 3

All I'm saying if it's taking this long to develop there must be some amazing feature that will give me a nice foot message because I don't see why it's taking so long for it to come out....

But all kidding aside I'm assuming they are trying to distance themselves away from Forza 3 release date or any future racer possible to maximize sales.. I would say they are sandbagging to have more of an effect when it does release because it'll be the only new racer out.

Uhh no, they're taking forever to get the damn game done becuase they're trying to squeeze every feature they can into it. It is a classic case of feature creep, and I'm surprised they haven't just axed a bunch of the features to get it out the door.

I don't know... I know they are adding features to it but at the same time I think the majority of the game is done. I'm suspecting there may be reasons other than adding features that is causing the game to be pushed back so much. This isn't fact but it's a suspicion I've been having for a while. The truth of the matter is I will never know but i dont' think any other game that's a first party game for Sony has been pushed back as much, maybe Killzone 2 but I don't remember well how many times they delayed that.

I'm still thinking of picking up a PS3 when it comes out but the wait is kind of killing it lol.

Ok well I DL'd this time trial demo. So far I have been messing around with just the stock Z. At the moment my best time is:

1:56:848

The "in car" view seems to be throwing me off a little. However it's the only view available for this demo, it's pretty cool. Best time ranked online at the moment is 1:48:056, making me number 7478 HAHAHA. I suck.

Also it seems like the handling is a little loose but it maybe because it's the stock settings of the car. Or maybe they dialed up the realism? You are not allowed to fine tune. Just get in, go, and pray.

On the Japanese demo, my friend and I were playing for a bit and we ended up with a combined ranking of 14th... That was a few days ago, though. Haven't checked to see where we ended up. I downloaded the U.S. demo the other day and haven't had the opportunity to sit down and mess with it yet though. I'll put in a quick time tomorrow though.

Odd - I can change my view to front bumper, which I prefer. Press "SELECT".

Wow! I will have to try that! I could have sworn I attempted that. I know I accidentally turned off my ghost replay and took forever to figure out how to turn it back on lol. Thanks for the tip!!

I only got to try the demo for a short window after I downloaded it, basically setting a few times with the tuned and untuned versions of the car but nothing competitive. I did not have enough time to setup my steering controller, so I had to use the Dual Shock 3 for my first experience.

Something has significantly changed since Prologue. Driving by stick seems twitchy as hell. The TCS is locked at 7 on the untuned version, but the car breaks loose like crazy. I still have no problem getting the car around the track, but I had to be a lot more careful with how smooth I was with the control inputs. I find the tuned version easier to drive, perhaps because the TCS IS off...and because it has stickier tires.

With Prologue, I normally play with no assists other than ABS, often leave the TCS at 1 rather than turn it off completely, and drive with professional physics. Of course, I also usually drive with a Logitech 900 degree steering controller, so this may be due to lack of experience with the DS3. That said, I could have sworn Polyphony had refined the DS3 for use with Prologue since its initial release...and I am pretty sure I liked those changes. Not sure how I like it in the demo.

I'll post more impressions when I get a chance to hook up the wheel.

Incidentally, I got an Xbox 360 for Christmas and I tried the Forza 3 demo using the standard Xbox 360 wireless controller. I had very little issues controlling the car with all but the ABS off. I still think the cars look bad, but am tempted to pick it up anyway...perhaps early next year.

I hope they allow you to d/l the replay from the winning times on both tuned and untunted after the contest is over. I'd like to see a reply of the winning times.

You can already watch the top replays from the leaderboards...including one from Kaz Yamauchi's and the guy who won the first GT Academy.

Damn I am still off by a mile. 1:55:048 :frown: I think the fastest time as of last night still stands at the 1:48:056 time.

Yesterday evening I made 6 laps with my G25 and the time was 1:45 :) The only problem that it was on the tuned car :-(:biggrin::biggrin:

Spent a little while playing this morning... Still couldn't manage to beat a buddy of mine who did a 1:37.6 in the tuned car, but I did manage a 1:38.4 in the tuned car, my personal best. I only did 5 laps or so in the stock car, but in that I posted a time of 1:50.58 while my buddy did a 1:50.30... I'm always just a tick behind him! I had a 1:49.9 or 1:50.0 in hand as I was 6 tenths up on my previous 1:50.6, but screwed up the final right hander before the bank and kicked the ass end out. Needless to say, this game can get under your skin. I quit after that, ha! :D

That being said, with his times, we're currently ranked 102nd with the tuned car and 128th in the stock car. Overall we're ranked 89th place.

I really suck at this game. Way up in the five digits in ranking. I won't post my time -- too embarrassing

HAHA No harm no foul. Post it!:wink::biggrin:

Hey Enigma just curious, do you use a steering wheel set up or just the regular controller?
