A week ago I see a guy with no hood on his civic and a engine sticking out .... few days later I saw this one and got a pic. Anyone have the 411 on this mod ? ..... No I am not asking because I wanna do it to my car. Personally I think it looks retarded.

It is called a J-swap. It is a v6 j series motor out of an Accord or a TL. On civics or integras they almost always have to cut a hole in the hood, and I too agree it looks goofy. The handling is all but shot by putting such a heavy motor in the front of such a light car.

agree its an engine out of another car, def a V6 honda engine.

it probably can go straight very well. I wouldnt be surprised if his turn radius is about the same as a Harley with extended front arms LOL

what a tool. the ammount of time he spent doing this. yikes.

probably from a stolen car.

Not to defend but way to profile? Its actually fairly common swap in the past year or so.

Wow, such hostility towards fellow car enthusiasts. Come'on guys, we should support anyone who wrenches on his car. This no more stupid than the guy who wanted to transplant the Chevy V8 into his NSX.

The reason for having the hole cut is due to ground clearance with the oil pan. You can mount the engine in its normal location w/o cutting the hood but the oil pan is so close to the ground, people were destroying oil pans. So they moved them higher.
It is an impressive swap.... ~260 whp without mods.....in a car that light.

That's pretty crazy! of course, doesn't look that pretty but I am sure is pretty bad-ass.

Bet the Jersey Troopers love car profiling that one?:biggrin:

So they are willing to go through the trouble of a V6 swap, but the engine sits higher and furthur forward over the axel because they are not willing to buy one of the 30 dry sump kits available to them????? RETARDED. I will take a stroked and boosted 4 banger over this mod any day of the week and race one of these jack asses who advertise how "cool" they are. I'm a bit hopped up over how pointless this is; seems all show. Do they have the handling characteristics of a Camaro?

I've seen some AWESOME handling camaros! I've seen a few from the 67-73 range, and last 2 gens that have suspension set up so tight that they actually lift the the inner front tire coming out of corners while keeping their line.

Talk about modifying a shopping kart...why not just save up for something a little quicker? I guess everyone's different...

you absolutely have made a great point, thats what is all about. i think it was just a poor decision on what to use to be different.
take care.
