It's easy. Don't mess with your smog equipment and you don't have to worry about it, but get to enjoy this:
Is it just smog check or also visual inspection? If it's just smog check, unless you removed the cats or run test pipes and such, you should be able to pass a smog check, even if you run fic or standalone ems, right?? :shifty:

Let's just put it this way... If you get caught in this retarded dragnet you have to pass both sniffer and visual. Any "modification" that is questionable will likely trigger additional mandatory visits with the CHP or equivalent. Thankfully, I have not YET been subjected to this so I have no first hand experience. My DDs have always been 100% smog legal

I've seen this up here in the Bay Area years ago.
Since then I never seen it nor heard from friends that they are even in the Bay Area.
I think they are trying to focus their efforts in So Cal where there are more cars and more cars with illegal mods.

They used to do these all the time at the on ramp to the 105E in El Segundo off of Sepulveda

Total bs. This is what makes Cali blow. Maybe, and it's just a thought, the state got off their lazy asses and patrolled like they should rather than let some guys sit around for hours doing crap I wouldn't dislike cali laws so much.

I've seen 5 of these...the worst one though, they set one up once by Cars and Coffee at the 5 and were set up before the on ramp!!!

When I saw it at 101 and Great America Expressway northbound there was 2 CHP on standby and 5 gov employees (gee how much did that cost?).

About 2 years ago I got tagged in one exactly like this on the northwest corner of Palos Verdes Drive North and Hawthorne Blvd. It was on a Saturday where they blocked the traffic down to a single lane. Then a cop would point at cars driving through and make them pull over in front of the ramp.
Thank God I was driving my wife's Audi at the time, which was bone stock!!!
After pulling in front of the ramp, they ask you several questions about your car and if you have any check engine lights on. They even stuck their head all the way into my window to look at my dashboard to make sure! Then they do a quick visual inspection of the car and make you rev the engine. If you don't pass the initial visual inspection, then they make you pull onto the ramp for further inspection.(there was an old Volvo already being inspected on the ramp)
After about 5 minutes of sitting in the car, they finally let me go on my way. After having that happen to me Rancho Palos Verdes, there's no way I'd ever remove my cats from any of my cars.

WTF... My NSX has out of state plates and I still have 2 years of registration. Em I screwed if I get caught? Whats the fine on this kind of BS. I hope they stay away from San Diego.
they just make you register it here. you can say you are just visiting and get out of it, but if they catch you over and over again, you are screwed.
