Unofficial Big-Wheel Thread: 18/18 and 18/19 - the future for NSX tire sizes

So.. this thread has gotten too complicated and confusing for someone to read and decide exactly what is needed. I'm looking for an 18/19 setup with good contact patch, but I really don't want to remove stuff or get wider fenders. So what is the correct wheel size, offset, tire size? Keeping in mind I have the 4 wheel Comptech/Brembo Indy setup?

Somehow I got more confused after this thread than before.

For wheels:

18x8 +38
18x8.5 + 44

and

19x9.5 +35 (+30 probably still easily)
19x10 +41 (+35 probably still easily)
19x10.5 +48 (+43 probably still easily)

=will fit under factory fenders with various sizes and factory alignment easily. As you go more aggressive on offset and wider on tire, you will need to add more camber or go to a more 'stretched' tire for clearance.
 
Thanks for bringing it back to something simple and understandable. Do you have a tire size to go with each of those? I'd think 18x8/19x9.5 would be preferable for weight (those of us not running any BOOST worry about these things :wink:)

Thats a loaded question and I would suggest reading the 10-pages of this thread to make a decision for yourself. Make, Model, Size, and Availability are all the variables that make it a difficult question to answer. It also depends on what type of tire and performance your looking for.

If weight is an issue, 17/18 might be a better option.

Just to give you the cliff notes: what are are talking about doing on this thread is experimental and requires some fairly major car modification. If you are not up for that you either give up tire quality and stay 18/19 or gain quality and stay 17/18. The sizes Billy just listed for wheels all require a lower quality of tire without modifications.

I removed the inner liners on my C63 Black Series just to get 325 series tires for the rear to tame the extensive oversteer that car had. I just bought a set of 18/19 wheels that are fairly lightweight (20lbs front 22lbs rear), although not as light as what you can get in 17/18. Anyways, tire sizing will be interesting to see and I'll report my experience in the future.

You will also hit the body seams (pinch welds) behind the tire. I am about 3/16ths away right now with a 235/40/SEVENTEEN. I know I have to shave them at least on my car.

No real updates. Wheels are off to have a widebody made around them (w.wheel spacers) my car is elsewhere getting the PFC brakes installed so I couldn't even put them on my car for pics. ...in time.
 
Well that's good news. At least the wide body is being worked on
 
So it looks like in the end, I'm going to do a custom wide body on my car. A few things fell in to place to allow it to happen and it just solves a lot of problems (and I like the looks). Gonna go with 245/35-18 and 305/30-19. Based on my calculations that gives me a ration of 1.059 which, is somewhat acceptable I think for my NA1 NSX. These wheels are on their way.. and should fit the tires fine:





I'll also be getting a set of "show" wheels as well for daily driving that will be sponsored as the car may be going to SEMA if it can be done on time. Trying to make a car good for a show and good for the track is not easy, but I'm up for the challenge.

I have stock calipers and Tein mono flex coil overs?

Running 18 / 19 combo now but they are 18x8 +36 and 19x9.5 +34 with the same tire sizes above and all is fine. Just have the an opportunity on a set of wheels so I was wondering if they would work. Any insight would be great. Thanks!

Not the purpose of this particular thread but yeah... You'll be fine with that tire. It'll probably clear just as well as you're stretching the tire shoulder despite the extra 3mm offset.
 
The Pzero definately have a small sidewall. There is a pretty wide variety of 245/35r18, however they all run 24.8" or larger. The Pzero is only 24.1, which I'm hoping will eliminate rubbing at full lock. The Pilot sport 225/40 rubs on a 18x9 et 30 front if you are low unless you trim the seam at the back of the front fender.

Did you run this setup? I can't even believe 245/35/18 has an OD of 24.1". That would work beautifully for OD because it matches 215/35/18, I just don't know about the width which is bound to hit stock fenders but maybe not Widebody. 245 front tires would be amazing.

i just checked and the 225/35/18 p zero nero have a 24.1" OD... That would work on a stock NSX as its the same OD as many 215/35/18 but I dont see how 245 can be the same. Let us know?

Wow. They do exist. Why did I sell my Widebody fenders... Damn I wish I had them now or maybe it's time for some DF fenders because 24.1-24.5" OD is probably doable if it doesn't hit the headlight buckets and you can fit the width.

245/35r18 front installed, I just got this setup installed. If you are low you will need to trim the rear seam, but nothing else hits. Perfect fit for a widebody NSX.

Love the kit Brandon. If it's still in design phase I have some minor suggestions but one of the best side profile NSX i've seen in a long time.

Love the stock looking, yet wider fenders. Love the bigger but stock looking side vent opening!

Looks good GT. DF fenders? Post more pics!

Billy, that's on our SV28 NSX Widebody kit. Front is 25mm per side wider and rear is 28mm wider per side. This kit is done full vacuum bag carbon fiber, these panels weigh 1/2 of the factory aluminum and abs parts. I'm running a 18x9.5 front with 245/35r18 and 19x11 rear with 285/30r19. This is the street setup, track setup will be different, probably a 9" front with 245 and 11" rear with 295.
