Pop up or googly eyes

If everyone believes this to be the case, how come there isn't a bunch of frog eye owners doing pop-up conversions, instead of the other way around?

+1 with what The King said. Also, it's not just a styling change. The 02+ headlight are so much better.

This is pretty weak argument. Most nsx owners appreciate originality of the car. If I would own 02+ I would never touch it. Same with my 94. Sure frogs may be lighter, better performing headlights. But when I think of nsx I think pop ups. Having said that for wide body nsx I think frogs look better.

its not that it looks better its about making an old car look newer. I will never do mine it doesn't fit the car lines, normally I would never agree with anything Jalopnik writes even if god himself told me to agree with them, but I agree this time it killed the car with the headlights.

the sideskirts and rear lower valance and rear tails def is all that needed to be done to this car.

oh and going back in time the 6-speed tran is the first thing I would have ever modded on my car if I had only knew the day/night difference from slow 5-speed tran to beast 6-speed tran

I don't know about that. There are plenty of people doing 02+ conversions to their classics, never the other way around. I think the 02+ NSX R looks better than any version of the NSX.

there has actually been one guy on NSXPRIME that converted his 05 to pop-ups not kidding I don't remember the thread but its here somewhere. and its not that salvaged red thing that was for sale for 8 years either it was a mint one that was converted

That was a alex zenardi that had a 02 conversion done to it already. He just converted back to it's original state. That was the exception due to how valuable a zenardi edition is.

I think the pop up lights look a bit cooler, but I hardly think it ruined the car. All I can say for certain is I don't miss scrubbing bugs out of my pop ups with a toothbrush.

I tend to think that at least some people go through the 02 headlight conversion to make their car look more rare or expensive. There are far fewer 02+ cars and their values tend to be higher.

Cheers,
Ian

I personally think both versions are awesome. I would at some point like to have an earlier coupe with maybe a few more miles, to use on a more regular basis. There is little doubt of the impact the original had when it hit the magazines. That's a pretty hard thing to get over.

Technically, and even stylistically, fixed headlights are better than pop-ups. So there is that. Unfortunately, Honda's implementation on the NSX is the absolute worst. It seems they just didn't try to integrate the headlights into the car. Easily the worst feature of the '02+ models.

Yeah, I can't see anyone taking the rarer version of the car and devaluing it by adding pop-ups.

Well it was afterthought after all (I mean 02 restyle)

Why don't we start referring to our cars as Googly and Non-Googly? Sounds better than NA1,NA2. Just a thought.

Hey, I like both. But I have a 91 and I would have to be a crack addict to cut into the body of the car to fit some better optics even though someone already did for my baller moonroof. I have done a hid retrofit two years ago and to this day have never even driven it at night. I like frogs and pops. But 02 rear is a must guys. A must!

One thing you guys cannot do with 02 lights. Is wink at another nsx that passes by.

Its like everything else in life. Whatever you have, you get used to and learn to accept/appreciate :) So, for me, since I have a 94 and its got the poppies, I like them! On the other hand, if I had an 02+ with the froggies, I'd probably love those the same!!
Having said that, I prefer the popups coz...well, they are cool and retro like manual trannies and hand-cranked engines.

It's a scientific fact that the pop ups look better then the frog eyes.....with the lights off:redface: (kinda like that girl at the bar, looks so damn hot until 2am when the lights come on:eek:)but I do kinda like the way the car looks with lights on(popped up)

I used to hate the way the 02's looked mostly because it made it look like the 3000gt, but like white sports cars, they have grown on me and I would love to have one:tongue:

No matter what your flavor, having an NSX is a special experience. I wouldn't trade my pop-ups for anything, but I wouldn't turn down a Googly eye either. The car is just too damn awesome. I don't feel dated with the pop ups, I feel rare. Since there aren't many around and even in the world of pop-ups, the NSX is special!

As a car ages, owners tend to freshen with more modern stuff/looks. At a certain point, IF it becomes collectable, there will be a lot of money spent returning them to original (Bose, 16" 5 spoke, air boxes, etc...).

The 63 split window Corvette coup got bad press (visibility) and some were converted to 64+ rear window look...that is a cardinal sin by today's standard.
Original fuel injection units were discarded (in the day)for more conventional carbs...

If you are in the car game long enough, what goes around comes around.

Well put, Mr. Cat.

Might I add, with regard to effectiveness of pop-ups vs. frog-eyes: Pop-ups + HID conversion = Job Done.

+1 The Morimoto HID kits I installed a few weeks ago are freakin' awesome, better than the factory HIDs on my S2000.
