When looking for an NSX to buy, did you compromise on your first choice?

Now that I'm kinda seriously looking for an NSX, I'm having difficulty finding the right one without compromising on what I want.

When you were looking for your NSX, did you wait it out for your "perfect" NSX, or did you compromise and get an "almost perfect" NSX?

I don't mean anything HUGE like wanting a 5spd and buying an automatic, but I mean the car has wheels that you don't like, or the the top is not the colour you want (I am looking for an early model with the black top. I really like the black top), or that the car has more miles than what you wanted.

I haven't been looking for too long, but I have read on Prime that some members absolutely MUST have the perfect one, and they have waited many months or even many years for the "perfect" NSX to be on sale.

I know that the changes (wheels, paint) can be changed back, but I feel that is a hassle for me. However, I know if I did buy an NSX like that, and didn't revert/change it to the way I want it, I will not be fully pleased with the car.

Thoughts?

I'm waiting for either a black or red NSX 97-01 with a supercharger, and other racing mods, but the exterior stock. I, however, would be willing to settle for something with a tasteful bodykit, such as the wings west. Suspension mods would be okay too. So to answer your question, I'm really just waiting for a supercharged NSX in red or black!

It took me about a year once I got serious and had cash ready. I wanted a '91 Black/Black with less than 60K on the odo with all service records. I was willing to travel up to 2000 miles to get it. I got lucky and the car came with new wheels/tires and an exhaust.

Don't comprimise and be patient...better in the long run.

BTW - There are more cars available in the summer but the prices do tend to go up along with it. Also widening your search will help considerably. Then you have a great excuse for a road trip to get familiar with the car.

ya i compromised.

i wanted a F16 but had no $, so then downgraded my goals to a 3.2L 6 speed... and had no money for that either.

Hummm. . . that is a tough one! I know what the feeling is like waiting. When I decided to jump into the search for my dream car it was overwhelming. I had a vision of a Black/Black coupe 91-98 as 'The Car'. Even though color was important what came first was a mechanically sound vehicle. If you start with this you can't go wrong. When the 'got's to have its' take over you can get yourself in a world of hurt choosing the wrong car. Ink a plan on paper of your 'must' haves and stick to it. If not you will not be fully satisfied.

I wanted a car that was stock, no mods, just the simple form that Acura started with. The only thing that I did not like was the 91-92 stock wheels were going to have to go if I got one. For some reason they just don't suit the car for me. If you get a car that is just not right, like me I did not have the know-how, or want to spend the extra $$, or time to tinker with it to get it right.

Just be patient the right car will come along. I started to lower my standards once I lost one after the other on Ebay bids or via Cars.com. I took a step back and thought that if I had bought a yellow or red car that I would just never be satisfied (nothing against the colors, they just were not what I wanted). I knew the right car was out there I just needed to wait until that owner parted with it. After 4 months I found what I was looking for. I only compromised on the coupe, opting for a targa (small sacrifice:tongue:).

Good luck!

I think you answered your own question ENDLESS.
If you must have certain things with the car to make you happy, then wait.

I on the other hand like to compromise. I see what I can do to save $. Sometime you can get a better deal by being a bit flexible. If this is your first NSX, just experiment with it. Once you have more knowledge of the vehicle and it is something that you will want to have for a long time, then find yourself that PERFECT one.

Don't compromise unless your unsure as to what exactly your looking for.

I wanted a 91 Black/Ivory NSX with lower than 70K mileage, good previous ownership, mods (no problem as long as it wasn't crazy), and in near to perfect condition. I found mine with the right mileage, condition, etc and bought it.

I know of a mint condition 91 Red/Black NSX for sale in the U.S. that looks and drives mint. I've got pictures and seen the car in person and wouldn't hesitate on buying it. Basically the red paint amazing and its obvious the car hasn't seen much sun...babied. The owner is a great guy!

I'm sorry, but when did we meet?

I looked off and on for about 5 years for what I wanted (spa yellow, flip-up head lights, and stock). I ended up finding a stock 97 spa yellow, with about 13,000 in January. I found exactly what I wanted - no compromise at all. Definitely, it has been a pleasure owning an NSX for the past year. Be patient, and good luck on your search.

I don't want to compromise and will pay a couple of thousand extra for the car I want, because I know if it the car has something that's unwanted, I'll bite my nails. Lots of great red NSXs out there but I want a few owner, full service, 60.000 miles, black or silver, MT and if I bought a red car I would always think of a black/silver ownership... A few options out there but all are either exteriorly modified (I'm all for clean look with only lowering, wheels and exhaust but not more) or too far away for me to go and check out the car :frown: I'm being picky because I will probably keep the car for at least 5 years and perhaps 7 years at most. I adore everything about the NSX.

Just waiting. It also depends on the time of the year. I would probably compromise when the next season comes closer... Snow starts melting and people take out their pride from hibernation... And I don't want to be without a sports car then. Springs first driver is one of life's best fruits.

My only comp was going to a tan interior instead of black. To be honest I've come to really like the tan. Really gives the car a classy feel.

I got lucky after about 1 week of looking and found my car 60miles from my house. One previous owner and meticulous maitenance records.
I wasn't too picky on color. All I wanted was a well maintained car with fairly low mileage.

I too was very lucky in that I found almost exactly what I wanted within 2 weeks and 10 miles of starting my search.........a stock, low mileage, red on black 91. Price was a little higher than I had planned and it needed some maintenance but the mileage was very low (26xxxk) and it was in beautiful shape, so it all worked out great for me

I can attest to Mark's car being in beautiful shape... one of the nicest '91's I've seen.

Not sure if it was a compromise but I was looking at a Porsche before going with the NSX. Basically went with design, since NSX's are not as prevalent as Porsche's in Sothern California.

My must haves: 97+, 6 speed, not black, not green, not wrecked, no history of big mechanical problems, no must-get-rid-of wheels, no basshead stereo

My wants: relatively low miles (< 50K), yellow, red, white, silver in that order; 17/18 wheels, close to Austin

I got most of what I wanted. My car has chrome OEMs, not my favorite, but much better looking than I expected. I couldn't find yellow at a good price or not more than two days driving. So I bought a red 97, essentially stock, in very good cosmetic and mechanical condition. Very happy with it. Wish I had money for wheels....

Nope, I got very lucky and bought one of the last new 05s in the best color made ;-> Steve

Greetings
I wanted a Red outside with Tan inside. Had a chance to buy one and thought the guy wanted too much money. I have a black on black 2003. I still wish that I had gotten the red one.

You will know it is right when you come across a car that has 80% or more of what you want.
It is good to have first and second choices for things such as color and year.
I was lucky, I stumbled across a '91 with 31K miles on it from the orginal owner. 100% stock, every bill including original window sticker, Bill of sale, maintanence and gas receipts detailing the history. 100% dealer maintained. Red / Black.
I wanted a newer car, but with the mileage and detail on this car, it was the one. I basically got a 3 year old car 16 years later.
Turns out I have one of the first cars in N.A.

For my first NSX, I was not looking for anything special. I was just happy to be getting one. I found a bone stock 94, 15 miles from my house. However, the mod bug bite me 2 days after purchasing it and my wife was not easy to convince regarding headers, muffler, etc. I added rims and suspension and the rest remained factory. Kids came and NSX went bye-bye. Fast forward to current day (3 years ago actually). Wife says I can get another NSX. Yahoo!! <O:p</O:p

Color and year were not a concern really. An NSX is great in any color IMO. I knew my budget was going to limit me to a pre 95 model year, so red, green, silver black or white was going to be it. I can live with these choices. I knew the mod bug was not going to be too far behind, so I decided to change my game plan a little. If I buy a stock NSX I'll probably be stuck with stock. For a long while at least. So, I needed to find a car with a few goodies on it. The search began. <O:p</O:p

Classifieds had several cars with lots of goodies. I mean cars with headers, exhaust, coilovers, brakes, clutch, gears, etc. I narrowed it down to 2 cars 1,000 miles from home; one black and one white. Decided white would be easier to keep clean (only 55k miles compared to 90k also helped) and focused my energy on that car. The fact that the car was also owned by Dave at Dave's Honda Haven, who happens to be an NSX Master Tech, made me feel comfortable that maintenance had been taken care of. <O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

37k miles later and the car has been great! I saved about $20k in mods/labor by purchasing a car that already had a lot of the goodies I wanted. This was important to me. You'll know your car when you see it.

<O:p</O:pGood luck<O:p</O:p<O:p</O:p

Hey Endless, are you the one with the white FC RX7 10th Anniversary?

I wanted a NSX but got a Supra (dont regret it). Now I am looking for a 97 + supercharged. Like red and Kaiser. I may have one in a week or 2.
