I went out for a nice Spirited Drive around the country side last night with a buddy of mine and ran into a Modified Subaru STI coming fast up behind me. I came to a stop sign and then pulled out onto a two lane highway, rolled up to 40mph, he rolled up next to me, we looked at each other and both hit it at the same time.

I was in second gear and before I knew it I was in 4th pushing 135 mph
The STI gained no ground and lost no ground he was right next to me the whole time, we both stood on the brakes to get down to the speed limit and ripped into the Gas station at the end of the road and BSed about cars for a little before he got a call on his phone and I took off.

I have never done this before ever in the NSX!

I always just shrug people off and let them blast on past me but this night was different, I wanted to know how I would fair to a Modified STI (sounded modified at the time) I think Randy (nsxtootall) influenced this reaction with his STI. At least now I know I would whoop on a stock one!

Just thought I would share.

Ohh Mods on STI, Full exhaust, turbo back no cats. Front Mount IC, Intake, Bigger Cams and Tuned to run higher boost,
Mods on NSX.. STOCK!

Once in awhile it's ok (when safe) to push your car to its limits! Good job

Those Subaru's, especially when modified, can be very quick cars. However, normally speaking, they seem to run out of steam above about 200 km/hour. And they certainly run out of gearing at around 150 mph whereas the NSX still has room for more at that speed.

Those Subaru's that I come across usually don't seem to feel like playing that often

Nice. Did the owner say how my HP it's putting down? Sounds 400ish?

I raced an EVO last year in my stock NSX and I blew his doors off. It wasn't even close. I was assuming it would be somewhat close since they're around 300hp but it wasn't.

I figured the NSX was fast when I heard the BOV. Who's is that?

STi's maybe fast but one of the most ugliest cars I've ever seen from an European design point of view.

+1, at leasts its better looking than the Mitsubishi Evo:biggrin:

BTW if you drop the car in 4th gear at really slow rpms these cars have tons of turbo lag its funny to watch it crawl.

The first and only time my wife drive the X....A young person in the STI would not leave her alone she said... They would not get off her tail and she was in the slow lane going 60 in a 65 mph zone....She said she couldnt take it anymore and dropped the gear to 3rd and floored it to get him off her but...came home red and mad....I quote her....("damn do you need to make this car any faster it scared me more then the fool behind me"..... Bad case of ROAD RAGE...

I have a hard time believing you blew the doors of an Evolution. How did you race the Evo (rolling or stopped)? Do you recall which Evolution model you raced (VII or IX)?

The reason I ask is I own both an Evolution IX and NA1 NSX. Both vehicles are stock but the Evolution feels stronger. One of these days, I need to purchase a Gtech and benchmark both cars:wink:

Dont know which car in real life is faster....But in this comparison with
a 95 nsx vs 2004 sti....The sti seems to lose its steam after 100mph on paper...But Starts off like a bat out of Hell...
.....But who knows....allot of factors play a part...(year, model, mods, driver, etc... ) BE SAFE THOUGH...

Jesus Christ, did you hear that 2JZ at the end of the clip burning out!!!

Yeah but it looked nice and low pulling away from him didn't it.

hahahah I am suprised she knew to drop the gear:redface:

Stage 2 turbo back tune should get you about 320hp at the wheels with about 370ftlbs peak torque. Not sure about all the other stuff, but 400 at the wheels seems as good a guess as any. Launch control and flat foot shifting which could be easily added would help too.

With shorter gears and more torque, the STI always seems to feel fast though it may not really be faster. Most of the comparisons I make are relegated to under 70mph as I keep the high velocity stuff for the track where it belongs.

Thats funny. I get more STI's wanting to race than any other make i see on the road. Maybe the new Vette comes in a close second.

I have never raced any of the sti's before but maybe the next time one wants to play i will give them a go. I never felt like it with my NSX stock but now with the full exhaust its more tempting.

Ugly as sin, but fast as hell off the line. They will demolish a stock NA1 from launch, but lose steam at higher speeds. I've got 3 coworkers with STI's so I've had a chance to run with them. With my CTSC and standard gearing, I can pull away at highway speeds but they still have the advantage at launch.
