17"/17" Tire Sizing?

I would like to try a set of So3's for street use. I seem to remember that if the front to rear sizes remain within 5% of each other the TCS will still function properly. Is there any thruth to this?

Using the tire chart in the FAQ it seems that a set of SO3 in the following sizes may work:
Front 215/40/17
Rear 255/40/17

Does any one know if this will work with the cars TCS?

ALSO; What if I wanted to go one size wider in front and rear? would I need to drop down to a 35 sidewall profile? AND would this set up work with the TCS?

Thanks in advance for your info.

Hi Craig,

FYI, I am using S03 tires in the exact same sizes and I have no problem with the TCS.

Regards,

That's about the same size as the new stock NSX - I guess they didn't change the TCS drasticaly. If you go wider, TCS won't be a problem as long as you keep the diameter relations front/rear - no need to reduce to /35. OTOH you may have problems with fender rubbing in front (depends on how low your car is).

I've used the following in the past and never a tcs problem1)225/45/16-255/40/17 2)225/45/17-275/40/17 3)235/40/17-275/40/17 4)215/40/17-265/35/18.This is on a 96.Of course these were not all so3 only the last set is,the others are various R compounds. Also you must remember that if you change only front or rears and not all four there can be significant diameter size difference between a worn2-3/32 vs full tread depth 8-12/32.

Don't your inner fender liners rub with 225/45's up front?

Yes they did but that was'nt the posters ? In fact I needed to remove my inner fender liner. Not a good idea.

Thanks people.

Enzo, Thanks I may go that way...:)

NSX Racer & DocJohn, Right, I don't want to rub either. So now the question is can I go with the 225 & 265 Combo and not rub and what should the side wall # be? 35 or 40?

I am currently running the AO32's in 235 & 275 and they do rub in front at full lock. I just don't want my street set up to rub or have TCS problems while going as wide as I can.

Yes, it will.

Then the front tires will rub.
