ABS conversion

I did the NA2 abs conversion it very simple once you have all the parts need.
which is

1) 00 or newer abs unit
2) abs brake lines
3) bracket that holds abs unit to car
4) wire harness from Gt-rom
5) time and patients
6) brake bleeders or second person

Everything works just like factory. I decided to do this conversion because I would like to one day convert everything that can be converted to NA2 spec's plus the unit is a trouble free unit. I did'nt take picture of the install while it was being done but do have pictures of the finish product..I will post pictures soon!

cheers

The new ABS unit main function is faster braking under poor road conditions and is less prone to malfunction. I do realize that upgrading the unit is not for everyone however if your unit has failed its a good time to upgrade..

cheers

Can't wait for your post on the upgrade.
Perhaps here or your own thread under Do It Yourself.
And the pricing would be nice, Thanks so much
The first unit has cause me grief in performance alot since I drive my car most of the year up here.

haha. You got me ponyboy.
what i meant to say is that they're the same.

No worries at all. I honestly didn't know what you were meaning to say.

IIRC, the NA1's were the first car to use a 4 channel ABS system which was, at the time, a very advanced system. However, seemingly just like everything else with the NSX, it grew outdated. I'd bet the NA2 system is a bit better though.

I can see the new system/conversion to be reliable and cheaper, but how is the performance better?

The ABS/ALB computer is the same and that is what runs the show.

All the mechanical fiddly bits just offer up pressure and cycling....hard to make significant increases in the mechanical arena without the software to go with it.

??

Your wrong about the software being the same. Once u do the conversion the old ABS computer is Removed. all software is inside the new abs unit the New abs harness reaches inside under the dash and plug into were the computer used to be. so it functions the same as from the factory.

Cheers

From the website of the originator of this modification in Japan, KSP Engineering, here's the differences.

new ABS is better because of:
Better/faster responses
lighter due to its construction
When activated, it does not cause the brake pedal to go to the floor
controls anti-lock at indivisual wheel

I guess the biggest difference is obviously the modulator which is a Bosch type which is a much better unit compared to the ancient unit on the older model NSX.

Personally, I do not like the abrupt nature of the old ABS.

BTW, there is a normal version and Type-R version of the new ABS though the difference is not really known.

Not to hijack the thread but one question: Is there a kit out there you can throw the old ABS completely out of the car? The ABS pump is prown to fail over time and I'm not willing to invest BIG-$ in a system that A) i hardly ever use and B) functions poorly.

Nevertheless $1300 is it worth but ONLY IF my old ABS pump fails.
