Air Filter Box

I am trying to find a few barrel nuts that are used to secure the top of the air cleaner housing to the bottom of the housing. In the past, I used Honda Bond, JB Weld, silicon adhesive to hold the barrel nuts in place, nothing worked. I had the car serviced at my local dealer and they managed to loose two of the nuts. I ended up drilling small holes in the remaining nuts and tapping 4-40 holes into the housing and used pan head stainless screws to secure them to the housing. That worked like a charm. However, I need two more barrel nuts. Acura sells only the entire housing. Does anyone know if these nuts were used on other cars or is there a source for them? Lastly, I can post a picture of the repair if anyone is interested. Thanks in advance. Jerry

Barrel nuts are a pretty loosely defined term. Do you mean these things?

or these things?

It has been a while since I replaced the air filter; but, I don't remember anything that looks like the first item, perhaps more like the binder post because there were a few projections that the cover had to be fitted on to or the rivet style that fits into a plastic post. All of them are available from lots of vendors including Home Depot & Lowes. If you want them in metric you would probably have to go to a specialty hardware supplier.

I have used rivet nuts (or nutserts or rivnuts)

to fix stripped out threads in plastic components. I did not use the riveting function in the rivnut. The expansion of a true rivnut that occurs during a installation risks damaging the plastic. I just drilled a hole in the plastic that was a very tight fit for the rivnut body and jammed it in with some of the Loctite or 3M special plastic adhesives (the type that have a separate activator) - work fast! 6-32 is the smallest that I have seen in a rivnut. I don't know whether they are available in 4-40. You might have to search a lot to find something small enough.

Thanks for the reply. I used 4-40 screws to hold the remaining fasteners in place at the bottom of the air filter box so they would not fall out while changing the air filter. I am looking for the stock "T" or barrel nut that came with the car originally. I visited a few Honda and Acura parts sites and found part number 17216-PN3-000. The part may be what I am looking for, but there is no picture for it listed. If a forum member changed out their original box for an aftermarket box, I would like to buy a few of the fasteners. Absent finding them, I will try using the barrel nuts from JHP Fasteners. Again, thanks for the info. Jerry
