Battery Voltage 15+ V @ 5000+ RPM

Prime,

I've noticed lately that my battery voltage is reading very high in the upper rev range, I've searched through the forum for battery voltage readings and they are all over the place. This afternoon I hooked up my Fluke multimeter to the remote battery terminals in the engine compartment and my measurements were as follows:

OFF: 12.2 V
IDLE (600 RPM): 14.2 V
5000 RPM: 15.16 V

First, I think a 1 V fluctuation is excessive. Second, I think 15.16 V is getting into battery destruction territory. I'm guessing that the voltage regulator in my alternator is shot but it would greatly appreciate the opinions of the forum on this subject.

Am I taking crazy pills?

Jack

Possibly the volt regulator in the alt. causing the overcharge. If so you do not need a new alt. Regulator are replaceable.
