I saw this on the update but haven't used it yet. I thought it looked really cool and was for a good cause. How does it work exactly? Does your PS3 stay on after you turn it off or something? Mine runs hot and I think it needs to take breaks every once in a while.

yeah do you need to leave your ps3 on. im actually looking into buying a stand and cooling fan to reduce overheating. saw a combo on ebay for like 27 bucks shipped. after you update the ps3, under the ps store you see folding@home. you d/l it and go from there, after you run the program you just push triangle and change your info and bam thats it nothing else to it.

When you update to the latest firmware 1.6, you'll see in the network section the Folding@Home icon. If you select it, it will ask if you want to download it. Download it, let it install, and then you can run it whenever you want. You can also set it to run automatically when the ps3 is idle for a certain time.

Thanks guys.. I have the cooling fan with the 2 centrifugal fans in it from Ebay. I can't tell if it actually lowers the heat by that much ..it's more loud than I thought it was going to be also.

I've already completed two work units and am well underway on my third. I'll be joining my company's team.

Crazy thing is that there are currently 17,770 active PS3s folding data at a whopping 435 TFLOPS. For comparison, there are 159,346 active Windows CPUs, but they are producing only 152 TFLOPS. That's pretty impressive!
