Hi Parker,
I thought your email to me was private so since it wasn't here is my response.
Most if not all of this stuff is "shot" from a photograph of real carbon fiber.
The process is very similar to "Pergo" floors. The reason is most people prefer the "perfect" carbon look to the reality. In truth - the real stuff looks much worse to most then the fake stuff. The fake stuff is too perfect - but is what most people want.
In the end - the real benefit of CF is it's strength / weight ratio. With all the backing, epoxy, and the fact that this is laid over and not a replacement - the whole point is looks - not weight savings.
So again - do you like the look of real/imperfect CF and are you willing to pay 3x more for it? Real or not - 90% of what you are paying for is the looks, epoxy top coat, and 3m backing - right.
I for one DO like your kit. I just don't like it $200 more. I don't know if you remember me but I emailed you a couple of months ago about it. It just was beyond what I was willing to spend for these.
Everyone who has sat in my car loves the subtlety of the 3 piece kit and the looks. I have seen the 6-7 piece kit and they are far from OEM IMO. I don't know about your kit but on the NSX kit I saw the piece around the clock and over the ashtray looks awful IMO. It just stands out too much.
Good luck with your kit. I am very happy with this kit's fit, finish, looks, and price and was simply reporting on that. We both know most of these kits are exactly the same and there are people selling the exact kit I bought for a LOT more then I spent. Those that want a thin sheet of real CF sandwiched between epoxy and 3M backing tape will decide for themselves if the extra money is worth it.
Now - I think EVERYONE would be interested in REAL CF NSX body parts - not dash kits. If I can make it to SEMA I will look you up. IMO - there is a huge advantage in the CF parts and this is were an all CF part VS. a fiberglass / CF part really shines.
Good luck - thanks for the email.
