Could one of you experts give me an idea how hard it is to add an after market exhaust system to my 92 NSX. Is it simply loosening 6 bolts and dropping the old system? What kind of problems could I run into?

Also what is the latest great sounding system available today? Where can I get it.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

The 'latest great sounding system' depends on your preference, there is a thread devoted to exhaust sound clips in the owner discussion forum.

As far as the installation is concerned... in essence, yes, it is just a matter of 6 bolts, then taking the system off the hangers. There is a chance you could have a problem with your bolts, if they haven't been touched for some time, but a breaker bar or impact wrench makes this a non-issue.

For me it was just four bolts and then taking the muffler off the hangers. For me the bolts were no problem and getting it off the hangers took the most effort. Putting the new exhaust on was easy. I bought a GT-one V2 and the only problem I had was that it was meant for a 3.0 instead of a 3.2.

yes and no...

yes that's all you really have to do...
no b/c those bolts (especially the older ones) have a tendency to freeze on due to rust... don't be surprised if you have to buy nut extractors to get some of them off...

I took off my OEM cat heat shields, no one else is mentioned this, but I am not sure how they would do the swap without removing them. I snapped seveal of those bolts getting them off. I went to a buddys house that had an impact wrench, made things a lot easier. Also suggest you soak bolts in PB Blaster prior to taking off.

In the aviation world, we use some stuff called, Aero-Kroil, in an orange spray can. It is, hands down, the damndist stuff i've ever used. I have broken loose turbine discs that run at 750 C, that dry ice and impacts wouldn't break loose. Just spray it on the bolts and wait about 15 or 20 mins. Smack each bolt 1 good wack with a hammer to shock them and they almost always come loose. If not, then go to the impact.

Cheers

Thanks guys. I went to the SOS site and listened to a few of the systems there. I will let you know which system I will go with.

I am still not sure how hard it will be to get the old system off. It's been on for 151,000 miles. Will I need to order new gaskets and bolts or will I reuse the old stuff?

Thanks again for your input. Any new info on this subject is also welcome.

Thanks guys. I am going with the Taitec GT Lightweight:biggrin: Now all I have to do is get those bolts off:eek:

On a somewhat similiar topic ... when installing a 91-94 exhaust on a 95+ the adapter pipes are needed. What bolts are used to attach the adapter to the exaust? Do I have to order more exaust bolts from Acura?

Also, will I need 4 new gaskets? One between the exahaust and adapter and one between the adapter and cats for each side?

PS - I bought a used exhaust <RM/BB> so I don't have the parts that normally comes with a new exhaust.

Thanks!

yes, you need to order the bolts and gaskets. they can be expensive from acura dealer (at least from my experience).

you might want to check around for the prices or even order the same part number from honda dealer.

or join nsxca to get the benifit of discount parts from the dealers.

good luck

good luck.

You could also get some gasket making material and make your own.

Cheers,

AR

Just to make sure ... does anyone know the part numbers to the bolts and gaskets that I need?

This should be your 1996. I think this will get you the number for the cat end gasket and bolts. The exhaust end i am not sure about. Should be 6 bolts and 2 three hole flange gaskets i think.

I am getting ready to install a GTLW. Would it be better to connect the adapters to the exhaust or to the cats first?

Thanks
