Crikey! I've lost me mojo!

Alright fellow primers I have a question/situation and I would like some opinions.

For the last year or so I seem to have an all around lack of motivation. I just don't have the same pep in my step. I have a lot of the same symptoms of low testosterone, but I had mine checked and it came back fine(740). I'm 34 so I know I'm not like I was in my 20's, but this seems like more than just being older. I can't seem to build muscle when I workout. Really my workouts just seem to stave off my loss of muscle/strength. I get hot flashes out of nowhere. Maybe one a month. It's bizarre, I'll just start sweating like crazy from every pore. They only last a few minutes and sometimes if I eat it will help, but I've had them after eating less than an hour prior. Also, I seem to have a lack of interest in picking up women. Not that I don't want to, I'm just "meh" about it. I have never been a super stud with the ladies, but this is bad.

Let me add that I'm not depressed and other than what I've stated above, I feel fine and am a happy guy. I would say I was in good shape/health and try to stay active. I take multivitamins eat fairly healthy and have never done any drugs.(Maybe I should. lol)

So what you guys think? Should I just quit my bitching and suck it up? Thanks,
Joe

I've kind of been going through something similar lately except I don't know what a hot flash is. That to me sounds like a diet issue. I have began to snap out of it, I think sometimes your body just goes through a cycle. Keep eating healthy and excercising. Consider just taking a break and go on a vacation.

I have... I'm eating better and my cardio is better. But I can really relate to what Joe is saying. A bit of a lack of motivation and drive. The symptoms of being depressed but you're really not. It's weird...

my point is ,that if he truely is losing wght but not trying to, and he is randomly sweating ect then something real maybe going awry, like his thyroid, lymphoma, ect,at this point its time to see Dr. Mojo.

I see. Well you're the doctor. I'm just a pretty face.

thats debatable...you might have to start the "hottest guy thread"

No, I'm not losing weight. I've been between 195 and 205 for the past 15 years or so. I weighed myself this morning and was 200. I'm not rapidly loosing muscle or strength just a very gradual thing.

EDIT: It's been a couple years(2 max) since I've had psychical. Do they check your thyroid with the regular blood work?

Hows your blood pressure. I get hot stinging feeling {like 10,000 needles} all over when I do my initial warm up set at the gym but immediately goes away. I found out yesterday my BP is just on the high side so I've got an appt with my doc tomorrow for that. Our nurse practitioner said the stinging could be the BP. We'll see tomorrow.

no, thyroid function is a ordered as a seperate test.Your doctor will determine if he/she feels it helpful.

How are your investments/finances going? In this crazy market it's easy to get sick and tired of all the ups and downs and just get in a "screw it" lack of interest type mood. Just sayin that getting nowhere can make you want to go nowhere and do nothing.

Stop smoking so much weed.

There are other things to check besides your total testosterone, you really want to see what your free testosterone is and also if your estrogen is in check. You could be aromatizing a lot of testosterone to estrogen...which might explain the hot flashes. You need to find a good specialist, not all endo's are created the same nor have an understanding of male hormones and how they affect the body.

I have began to snap out of it, I think sometimes your body just goes through a cycle. Keep eating healthy and excercising. A trip to Hawaii was great for me. Consider just taking a break and go on a vacation. Going to the beach and doing Jiujitsu all day was awesome for me.

This is actually the best time to pickup girls too, because you truly don't care. That's when they all come... LOL... Seriously now that I'm in this semi-funk and don't care you should see the texts I get.

Or maybe this is a good time to practice your pickup technique because if you get rejected you just shrug your shoulders anyway. Haha...

Good point. Might want to look for a new job, too. I completely nailed an interview for a job I didn't give a damn about, probably because I was so relaxed and free with comments I might not otherwise make.

First off thanks for all the replies. My blood pressure is fine, just checked it 115/75. My finances and job are fine as well. I'm not stressed out over anything and no traumatic events have occurred. Things are actually going pretty good for me. I guess I'll just go to the doc and see what he thinks. Thanks again for the advice. Oh and Biscuits, my job does random drug testing so unfortunately no weed for me.

Ahh there's your problem... You're not smoking enough weed. :)

Question the first, is it mental or physical? Should probably try to narrow that down first, if you can.

If it is physical, you should get a Dr to figure out what ails you and prescribe something to fix it.

If it is mental, consider doing something to spark your motivation. Challenge yourself to something you would have never done. I hated running and on a whim I decided I would train and run a marathon. It consumed me and gave me new purpose and motivation in my life I hadn't had in a while. Or move to a new city on a whim. That's how I ended up in Vegas. When you have to start all over, you'll re-discover yourself. It's like hitting the reset button on life but keeping all the knowledge you earned along the way.

It sounds like you're just stagnating. Everything physically, emotionally, and situationally seems fine. Fine...but Not GREAT.

Pick one thing that can reinvigorate your mojo. We all have different thresholds. For you it might be a simple purchase or a new hobby... a mistress on the side (jk, or am i? lol). For Vega$ it's moving to a whole different city  lol

Maybe you can work on yourself physically. How about that 6 pack you never had and now want? How about participating in a business start-up venture? If this was a mid-life crisis i'd recommend a Porsche!

If all else fails, smoke more weed.

Why are you guys telling him to smoke weed:confused:. That will make him even less motivated. He needs to try cocaine, that will get him motivated:biggrin:

He's just gettin' old guys. :p Just wait till you hit your mid 40's joboy77.

You guys crack me up!

I can totally relate to this..... I'm almost 34 (in a month) and I have many endocrine issues (hormonal) ...

Go to an endocrinologist and have them check:

TSH (Thyroid levels) - This one is a chemical your pituitary gland releases that tells your thyroid to produce its hormones ( thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), are tyrosine-based hormones produced by the thyroid gland)

ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone) - This one is a chemical your pituitary gland releases that tells your adrenal glands to produce more cortisol. If its really high, then you may have Addison's Disease. (Adrenal Disorder)

Cortisol levels - This is the major one that gives you all your energy and is produced by the adrenal glands along with a litany of other critical hormones that help muscle growth, energy levels, helps break down sugar, regulates metabolism and insulin....

Mineralocorticoids, Glucocorticoids, Androgens (Testosterone etc)

Ask me how I know this. :) The above tests are not cheap so hopefully you have insurance! Good luck!!!!!

Some things are very important that count a lot when you want to detect something about your own body.

• Family History of conditions
• Ethnicity / Genetics (some groups have tendencies others don't)

IMHO, Losing overall motivation maybe is just a call to change careers? perhaps change city? or taking the next step and having kids (believe me, they are highly motivators)

I am in my case sometimes with LACK of imagination, a BIG NONO in my profession, then I think about my daughter, and I start designing again ... but I am not the same as 25! LOL .. I'll be 35 in 2 weeks :(

Good luck OP. I hope you nail where the problem is, and bounce back stronger, but don't be so hard o you, you are HUMAN and just one!

Oscar
