Disconnecting the Battery?

I am re-installing my CD changer and cell phone. I think I may have a bad ground in the trunk because the fuses for the interior lamps, trunk light, and power antenna keep burning out.

Hey dudro:

Some electricity 101...

If you are blowing fuses, it is not because of a "bad" ground. Rather, you need to look for a short circuit from the hot wire that feeds the components you mentioned, to ground.

You will need a volt ohm meter to investigate your problem.

Pulling the 120 amp fuse does NOT isolate the battery from all the electrical systems. Proper technique requires that you disconnect the battery at the battery terminals.

Re: the blowing fuse. Check the power antenna. Often the motor partially fails and draws more current. Disconnecting the motor is the simplest way to check.

BTW, the clamp on the positive terminal is the one you must disconnect.
