I just purchased a '91 with 53k and an after-market exhaust. It passed inspection no problem, but failed emissions. The mechanic said to bring it to Acura and have them figure out what the problem is.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

For starters, look at the emissions report and make sure the mechanic entered the correct model year. I once failed an inspection b/c my '91 was entered as a '95 which has different emissions specs I believe. If that's not the reason, take it Charlie at the CarDoc on Lee Hwy. 703-560-8870, he by far one of the few individuals I would trust w/ mechanical work on my NSX and several other Prime members can attest to his ability, knowledge, professionalism & fairness. The last people I'd take it to is the dealership, but that's just me.

List the result and we should be able to diagnose better. Also, list the modification your car has.

That part that says 'Cat eliminators' if you don't have a catalytic converter, I guarantee you'll never pass. You may want to check into that.
