Not bad for a car designed 12 years ago and not even officially imported to the UK. Porsche C4S finished a clsoe second with Ferrari 575M Fiorano 3rd. They also compared the NSX-R with super car Zonda C12S. Very long article on their selection process, worth a read.

FYI: Anyone who needs a refresher course on how a 12-year old base design with minor tweaks can stay more than competitive with sports cars offering two and even three full generations worth of R&D should go and read this site cover-to-cover:
http://world.honda.com/NSX/

Everytime I read it, it seems like the very first time. Just amazing.

Here is the rank.

1. NSX-R 93.5
2. Porsche 911 4S 92.9
3. Ferrari 575M 88.6
4. Mercedes SL55 86.9
5. Lotus Elise 111S 85.1
6. Mini Cooper S 84.9
7. Mitsu Evo VII FQ-300 82.7
8. Nissan 350Z 81.8
9. Renault Sport Clio 81.3
10. Jaguar XKR-R 79.7
11. Suba Impreza STiPPP 78.4
12. For Focus RS 76.0

"Far and away the greatest driver's cars of 2002 are the C4S and NSX-R. Many of us spent ages agonising over scoring the two cars, and in the end there was just 0.6 of a percentage point in it. Simple fact: the purest driver's car won.

The irony, say Vivian is that the NSX started life as the most contrived, compromised supercar - for all the right reason - and it's been turned into the hardest, purest, most involving there is."

Key statement: "And then you drive it, and the whole thing feels so at one, so absorbing that you just want to keep going until you meet the horizon."

Cheers!!

Do you know of another Green-Black roof NSX?? Please email me if you do.

It's also pretty interesting that the $20K Mini Cooper S ranked so high as well.

Hmmmm....

The UK mags tend to be emotional in their selection and the Mini is a car that has stirred a LOT of emotion over there. It's not a surprise it ranked so high... It's similar to how the Vette Z06 is nowhere on that list when, in the US, it'd bound to be.

Yes. It's a great (and long) article, I reccommend buying a copy. I bought the only copy I saw at my local Barnes & Noble.

For anyone who can't find it, or is too impatient to wait, here's the text of the article about the NSX-R:

this is an awesome thread... the NSX-R review is really interesting, and that NSX-R Concept site is the best source of NSX-R info i've ever come across... (well, 2nd to EVO saying it's THE best car

)

the photo of the NSX-R underbody is especially interesting since that's what magazine/track photos NEVER show... and yet it's important coz of drag & lift reduction...thanx Mako for posting that! i'm off to re-read the site...

Now, if the new 996 GT3 had been there, I think the outcome would have been different...

Why can't we have the NSX-R here?

The Z06 is not on the list because it is not new for 2002, all of these cars listed are new, or substantially changed for sale in Great Britain.

Drive a Cooper S someday, if you are not smiling ear to ear when done, I will mail you $5

Thanks for posting it... I'll be on the lookout for the magazine too.

0-60 in about 4.4 sec ?? I guess the "some Japanese horses are friskier than others" comment rings true in this case.

Well, Gary, you're not going to be sending me $5. After much deliberation and another test drive, I ordered an all-black MCS on Saturday!

Terrific fun!

Actually in the most recent BM vid they put a F-50, Murcielago, 911GT2, GT3and NSX-R against each other. The NSX-R was much faster than the GT3 911(Roadversion). And according to all the BM drivers it was faster through the corners than even the 911GT2...
But unfortunately, 450+hp makes a big difference on the track as the GT2 was all around faster than the NSX-R

Just imagine what the NSX-R would do with a 450 HP v8
