Thought you guys would like to read about this:

The Honda Civic Mugen RR (based on the new JDM Honda Civic Type R) is limited to a total production run of 300 cars. Japanese track fiends with ¥4.7million to spend on a spiffy, street-legal time attack weapon are its target audience -- and a receptive one at that. On September 14th at 9:00 AM local time in Japan, reservations for Mugen's ultimate Type R officially began being taken. By 9:10 AM, according to the Japanese enthusiast site, Carview, the 300th reservation was placed. However you want to parse the numbers (we're sure additional reservations were taken, in case some prospective buyers bail out), one thing's certain: all 300 cars are spoken for well in advance of the expected January delivery date.

Those lucky enough to secure the Mugen RR receive a lighter, more powerful and track-tuned Civic Type R that in the right hands is capable of lapping Japan's Tsukuba circuit in 1:06:38. At least that's what the folks at Mugen were able to wring out of it. We're sure some of the car's buyers will be looking to top that number as soon as they have a chance. With this thing, life is a driving game, and Time Attack mode is always on.

Our exchange rate isn't quite that bad yet, but as of today that's 40 grand even. Impressive it actually beat the Ferrari F40, I would be sorely dissapointed if my Ferrari F40 was beaten by a more or less special edition factory Honda Civic. Then again the numbers are extremely close, it took the NSX-R out by a fraction of a second as well.

I like the look of that Mugen Civic, but I not a big enough Honda fan to pay $40K for what is really just a beefed up Civic. Still nice though...if anyone here gets one and is in So Cal, I want a ride.

Oh and before anyone asks...anyone know if those seats will fit in an NSX??

Don't worry, Honda wouldn't bring it over if they could sell 12 million units. The dual exhaust is a bit ricerish but you can't argue the results: 1:06 at Tsukuba is astonishing.

Plus you can always get the Type R baby seat.;)

I'd expect Z06 and Mc F1 to perform better there :) I mean Civic is 0.3 off :D

IMHO, Tsukuba is basically a glorified autocross course. And IIRC, even the new CTR sedan gave the NSX Type S a psuedo whipping. I think there's a video out as well.

We are getting our own Mugen Civic this fall. They're making 1,000, but it won't be anything like the RR version. :frown: We always get crapped on here! Info can be found on Honda's site here.

And no Shawn, we don't get the RR seats.

It was beaten at Tsukuba circuit not at Nurburing where the results would be different as there are long straights for top speed.

Honda is using a 4 door to exploit weight distribution hence faster times versus 2-door civics as they are front engine layout.

Is the weight added for 4 doors that much greater than the a coupe layout for Front engine/Front wheel drive?

With similiar output from an S2000 with a better drive train layout, why can't an S2000 perform the same? It seems illogical even for a winding track that a front wheel drive/front engine sedan could keep up with a Ferrari F40.

Can someone please explain the science behind this?

So how much different is the one we're getting?

41K is about 1 and a half times of what a civic would cost. If you put 50% of the value of a car into modifying the car itself I think you can come out with staggering track numbers as well

US mUgen si = US Si + shocks/springs/sway bars/wheels/tires/exhaust.
basically, Si with sprinkles on top.

Mugen civic rr = civic typer + cams/header/exhaust/aero-package(diffuser etc)/oversized brake/suspension/seats etc
basically do more type-Rish stuff on what is already type-R

btw, if you want, you can buy a HONDA built civic type-r race car for only 1,690,000 yen($15k US) not legal on road tho.

Nice avatar ak.

Here's the vid of the NSX Type S vs. a mere Civic Type R for additional reference:

Well tyres today are much better than that on F40 and suspension on Civic is much more advanced etc. etc. :)
