I just picked up some Castrol Syntec 5 qts + K&N Filter @ Kragen for $27.99 and i thought about Mobil 1 filters.. What makes one better than the other?

I did my google search and found this:

Why it's a best pick:
Mobil 1 oil filters are fairly expensive, but their fully synthetic fiber elements do a much better job filtering small contaminants than the conventional paper elements found in cheaper filters. But despite their excellent filtering capability, these filters still flow well. The Mobil 1 oil filters are manufactured by Champion Labs and can be purchased at many retail locations. They are virtually identical to the K&N oil filters (which feature a welded nut at the end for easier installation and removal), but the K&Ns are harder to find at retail locations. However, if you can find a good deal on them online, the K&N oil filters are equally recommended.

He ranked Purolator PureONE Oil Filter as a better choice, which surprised me because i had no idea Purolatrs were "quality" filters. I see them @ Pep Boys and i assume they're the same as junk Fram filters..

Still curious, i did some more research here:

I don't think i can come to a conclusive decision on which one I'd pick since there is so much misinformation out there. What do you guys like?

since you started the thread and it being 2010....

I think its time we cut open some new filters. I have been running Fram TOUGH GAURD and only run it for 3000miles, i have heard mobil 1 are junk. i have heard WIX is good blah blah blah.

If you really care, purchase every decent brand and cut them open and find what they are made of. Things have changed in there construction, but i can tell you they still fail(bypass), mobil 1 being one of them. This comes first hand.

good luck.

thanks.. i use fram tough guard too and i've had small issues here and there, but time to change it up a bit.

FYI, you can purchase K&N filters on Amazon for roughly $9.99 and it qualifies for free shipping on $25 or more orders.
